Dallas is the Best! More or Less.

Categories: News

This morning we had to use the City of Dallas' Web site to find the address of a park -- which, on Firefox, at least, proved a nearly impossible task. (We had to switch to Internet Explorer to type in zip codes, and we're lazy, lazy people.) Of course, regular users of the city's site know there are plenty of nifty services to be found on the site -- we love typing restaurant names into the Food Inspection Scores search engine, we hear it's relatively easy to pay your water bill, and we do love to follow along with council briefing and agendas.

While on the city's site, we noticed a mention of some accolades: Late last week, the Center for Digital Government named Dallas's Web site as a finalist in the City Portal Category, part of its Best of the Web awards. (Also contending for the award: Fort Wayne, Indiana; Mesa, Arizona; St. Petersburg, Florida; and Virginia Beach, Virginia). And the City of Dallas 311 Online Information & Services Directory was named a winner in the Government-to-Citizen Local Government Category. In related news, our Web site now offers slide shows. --Robert Wilonsky
