Steak n Shake Up

One of the many great things about Steak n Shake: the fact its locations are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Only, not so much, turns out: A day after recording substantial losses, Steak n Shakers told analysts during a conference call that it's looking to save a little dough by turning out the lights early in some markets -- including, yup, you guessed it:

The Indianapolis-based franchise is testing the idea of limited hours in its stores in Tampa, Grand Rapids, Mich., and in select Dallas stores.

Executives said they will begin to expand this program selectively in coming fiscal quarters.


No word on the potential Dallas owners. But, seriously, when do we get a White Castle, anyway? Because that tastes amazing at 3:14 a.m. --Robert Wilonsky
