Copping to Fort Worth PD's Past

This morning, we received word that a former Fort Worth Police Department officer has written and self-published a history of the department. Thirty-year vet Dale Hinz's book is titled Panther's Rest: History of the Fort Worth Police Department 1873-21st Century, and while we can't cop to the quality of the tome, which we haven't seen, it does promise some interesting tales -- among 'em, the story of "Hell's Half Acre" (between present-day Seventh Street and the Texas & Pacific Railroad tracks) and a history of the Jacksboro Highway, which, says the Author House site, "was not only a source of gambling, drinking and gangland style murder but also of police corruption." Do tell, officer. --Robert Wilonsky
