Will Johnson Only Wants 2 See U Laughing in the "Purple Rain"

Categories: Local Music

We hope some of you were able to catch the excellent Centro-matic show at the Granada last Friday (if you didn’t, Jesse Hughey’s take on the shindig can be found here). It was the following night, however, that saw the band really letting loose, playing a private wedding party at the Double Wide for a small crowd of appreciative friends and pulling out some great covers along the way, including takes on Greg Kihn’s “The Breakup Song,” The English Beat’s “Save It For Later” and Bill Withers’ immortal “Ain’t No Sunshine.”

But for you, dear Friends of Unfair Park, we present a dimly lit, poorly shot take of the mother of all covers, Prince’s “Purple Rain,” along with an entertaining lesson in rotisserie cooking by Centro-matic frontman Will Johnson. --Noah W. Bailey
