Local Hip-Hop Label Now Has Serious Clout, Courtesy EMI

Categories: Local Music

If you visit the MySpace page for local hip-hop label Clout Records, you'll find there an invite for tomorrow night's press conference at the downtown Hyatt Regency, where the label's CEO, Corey Cleghorn, will formally announce his new distribution deal with the mammoth EMI Records. Or you could just go here and read all about it.

It's not the best deal in the world -- says the CEO in last week's press release, "Even though we are not getting advanced a lot of up front money, we receive 75 percent of all of our sales and own our masters" -- but it's a nice head start for the label that's home to Big Chief, Young Nino and Hot Boy Star. Says a Friend of Unfair Park who knows about the hip and the hop, Clout's one of the best self-promoters in town; "they have the street scene on lock," says our skinny-fresh Friend, and we believe him. --Robert Wilonsky
