Another Dallas Grub Rag
Now there’s a place for your Loving Tex-Mex with Limburger recipe collection. Dallas has a new food and wine magazine: Culinary Concierge Dallas/Fort Worth, a Web-based magazine, plus a four-color dead-tree quarterly, founded by New Orleans cookbook author and food stylist Kendall Gensler in 2000. Culinary Concierge bills itself as a “food and wine editorial” vehicle for local journalists to share bits of history, recipes and “pleasures.”
“No reviews or anything like that,” insists publisher-editor Catherine Collins, a self-described food and wine aficionado and publishing neophyte who, with her lawyer husband Robert J. Collins, licensed the magazine from Gensler. Former Dallas Morning News restaurant critics Dotty Griffith and Teresa Gubbins will contribute, as will former radio restaurant talk-show host Jim White, who throws the annual Savor Dallas event. The magazine, which also comes in New Orleans, Florida -- and, soon, Atlanta -- versions, will feature work by food writer John Mariani.
These local wine-and-dine pubs can treacherous. Among the corpses are Dining Book, DiningOut (this one may still exist, but they don’t answer their phone) and the Dallas Food & Wine Journal -- not much food-and-wine fluff luck in this land of more-restaurants-per-capita-than-New York. --Mark Stuertz
