ACS to Fork Over $2.6 Mil to Feds
It's always something with Affliated Computer Services, seems like. Like today: U.S. Attorney Richard Roper just issued a press release in which he gives a thumbs-up to a settlement with ACS, which agreed to pay the feds exactly $2,645,987.30 to resolve alleged False Claims Act allegations. To be more specific, says the release:
ACS allegedly violated the civil False Claims Act by submitting inflated claims for payment between 2002-2005 for programs run by and through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), and the Administration for Children and Families of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (ACF)...
ACS was a private contractor awarded federal funds to further the goals of TWC and the Board. ACS was compensated with profit and incentive payments according to the number of individuals enrolled in specific federal programs.
However, it was ACS that initially made the government aware of the "inappropriate conduct by several former employees" that led to today's settlement agreement. So, good for ACS. Or something. --Robert Wilonsky
