Suffer from "Islamophobia"?

Categories: News

If so, we have just the news for you: On July 8, the Washington-based nonprofit Council on American-Islamic Relations is kicking off "a nationwide discussion of 'Islamophobia,' or fear and hatred of Islam and Muslims" with a panel discussion at the Crowne Plaza Park Central -- same place where the Islamic Society of North America is holding its South Central Regional Conference on Saturday.

Notes the press release, the local event will be titled "Do U.S. Policies Fuel Islamophobia?," and it'll feature Islamic and Middle East profs and experts who will "seek to explain the historical context of the issue and provide resources for gaining a better understanding of the negative impact anti-Muslim bigotry has on American society and on our nation's interests worldwide." And as a bonus, they'll also get into the U.S. government's case against the Richardson-based Holy Land Foundation, with the trial set to begin in July as well. I dunno -- sounds boring and not at all likely to spark controversy whatsoever. --Robert Wilonsky
