Greyhound Has Its Own Iraq Conflict

Categories: News

On Monday, a Michigan man filed a federal discrimination suit against Dallas-based Greyhound Lines, alleging that a driver booted him off a bus because he's an...Arab. Indeed, according to 42-year-old Faroq Alfatlawi -- an Iraqi native, no less -- that's just what the driver told him: "Get away, Arab." On the bright side, it could have been so much worse.

Alfatlawi says it happened during a January 2006 trip from Detroit to Washington, D.C.; the driver allegedly gave him the adios during a stop in Toledo, when he "left [Alfatlawi] stranded and drove off with his belongings," according to his attorney. Greyhound's spokesfolks can't talk about the suit, but do tell the Detroit Free Press that the company "does not tolerate discrimination of any kind." And if you've ever ridden a Greyhound, you know that's very, very true. --Robert Wilonsky
