Brain Freeze

Today, hell officially freezes over. Is there a more scintillating event in sports than the National Hockey League Draft? OK, maybe hot-dog eating. Or Scrabble. Or lint-licking. Officially called The 2007 NHL Entry Draft, the waste of time tick, tick, ticks today and tomorrow from Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. If you’re reading this while in traction, you’ll be thrilled to know the show will actually be televised tonight at 6:30 on Versus. Believe it or not, there are seven rounds. Or six too many.

Our Dallas Stars -- whose season ended back in April -- have six picks, but are hardly jazzing us with their first being the 50th overall. It’s the 11th consecutive year Dallas has drafted 25th or lower, and the 11th consecutive year none of us have given a damn. I’ll go through the Stars’ recent picks, and you stop me when you’re comatose: Niklas Grossman … Loui Eriksson … Trevor Daley … Mike Smith … Jussi Jokinen … Steve Ott … Antti Mie … oh, forget it. --Richie Whitt
