Phemme Phatalie?

Categories: Dish

Dotty Griffith. Remember her? She’s the former Dallas Morning News restaurant critic who Nick & Sam’s-Eatzi’s founder Phil Romano hates to love. He drug her through the lawyer trough, donchaknow.

Anyway, after being ceremoniously eased into the last Dallas Morning News newsroom pruning last September, Griffith has landed herself a new gig: She’ll be the face and personality of Smokin' A Phattie, a Frisco-based Web community where barbecue obsessives can share recipes, pix and tricks on fire, smoke and fat-laced carnivora fare. (From the looks of things on the site, it looks like a fumin’ dating pit too, or would be if BBQ enthusiasts didn’t think their craft was better than sex.)

At Phattie, Griffith will pen “smokin' hot blogs” and forums while filing newsletter articles, various reviews, interviews and barbecue reports. Leashing along a film crew, Griffith will also do play-by-play at the nation’s most famous barbecue cook-offs. We smell burning books too.

Smokin' A Phattie was engineered by Social Marketing Investments, a social networking development firm lit by barbecue enthusiast Edward Garcia. Garcia also founded the info-tech management firm Proceed Technical Resources, Inc., also in Frisco. From pulp to pixels -- sure beats surfing a wave of phat circulation declines. --Mark Stuertz
