If Only One of Barry Bonds' Balls is Worth $1 Million...

Categories: Sports

My dad, and most anyone who loves baseball, figures Barry Bonds' 756th home-run ball oughta be worth the few buck it runs retail -- or slightly less, since it'll be a used baseball. But the folks across the street from Unfair Park HQ, over at Heritage Auction Galleries, have already put a price on Bond's ball: one meellllion dollars.

That's what Heritage's Chris Ivy says. He's the director of the company's sports auctions, and he said yesterday that "we invite the lucky owner who delivers this historic baseball, as verified by Major League Baseball, to redeem it for a $1 million bounty at a Dallas news conference within 15 days of the record-breaking homer." Bonds is 11 homers away from breaking the Hank Aaron's record. Me, I like this comment on the ESPN Web site: "If I caught that ball, I'd pull a Sharpie out of my pocket, draw a big asterisk on it, and throw it back onto the field, Wrigley style." Zat you, Dad? --Robert Wilonsky
