Bush Library, Meet Sports Think Tank

Jim Morris, who looks nothing like Dennis Quaid, is in town this week for a sports thingy over at SMU.

Tomorrow: The Super Bowl. Today: Summit On Sports.

In 2011 North Texas will give the world a grandiose, decadent event filled with parties and excess. But for the next two days, we’ll give the world...um, morals? SMU’s Collins Center is the epicenter of ethics today and tomorrow, hosting the inaugural Summit On Sports, a symposium focusing on all that is good in sports. Egos? Cheating? Drugs? First-round flameouts by local teams? Fat guy dance teams?

The two-day think tank will address and, one hopes, fix them all. Participants include Jim "The Rookie" Morris, Red Cashion (former NFL referee), Janet Hill (Vice Chair Member of the Knight Commission), Sheila Johnson (co-founder of BET and owner of the Washington Mystics) and Earl Young (gold medalist in the 1960 Rome Olympics). Open to the public for a cool $250, the Summit culminates Thursday from 7-10 p.m. at SMU’s Dedman Center with “Raising Champions -- A Night of Legends, Life Lessons and Legacy.” The event features Roger Staubach -- fresh off helping to lure Super Bowl XLV to Arlington -- Calvin Hill and son Grant Hill. Not expected to appear: Terrell Owens. --Richie Whitt
