Wright Writes Himself to a Pulitzer

Categories: Arts

A Friend of Unfair Park wonders:

How about a shout out for Lawrence Wright? He took home a Pulitzer for general non-fiction yesterday for his best-selling investigation of the 9-11 attacks, The Looming Tower: Al-Qaeda and the Road to 9/11. But he's also the author of a great book about growing up in Dallas called In the New World.

You might recall that a few months back, we actually gave Wright a shout-out during his appearance at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, upon the publication of The Looming Tower, which was also nominated for a 2006 National Book Award. And, yup, 1988's In the New World: Growing Up with America, 1960 - 1984 remains one of the few essential books written about Dallas. And now the Dallas-raised Wright's got a Pulitzer, along with Fort Worth's own Ornette Coleman, who was bestowed the honor for his 2006 album Sound Grammar. --Robert Wilonsky
