Out of Exile, Scott Sams is Back

Categories: Media
C'mon, admit it -- you missed Scott Sams just a little. No? Sorry, m'bad.

In January, Scott Sams got WFAA-Channel 8 to pay him $660,000 in back pay, damages and attorneys' fees after he sued the station for getting canned in 2004. Now, the Sherman-stuck anchor found a way to get KTVT-Channel 11 to pay him as well: They gave the guy a job.

For months the rumor's been circulating that Sams was coming back to town. But as of today, it's official. Says the press release we just received: "SCOTT SAMS JOINS CBS 11 AS MORNING CO-ANCHOR." So there. He starts April 23 -- at, what, 2 in the morning? Have fun with all that, Teresa Frosini. The full release is after the jump. --Robert Wilonsky

Sams to Begin Co-Anchoring CBS 11 News This Morning April 23

Dallas/Fort Worth - Veteran Dallas/Fort Worth television news anchor Scott Sams will join KTVT as co-anchor of the CBS 11 News This Morning beginning Monday, April 23.

Sams will join co-anchor Shannon Hori, Meteorologist Julie Bologna and Traffic Reporter Teresa Frosini weekday mornings from 5 to 7 a.m. on CBS 11.

"First and foremost, Scott Sams is a wonderful person and an extremely talented broadcaster," said CBS 11 President and General Manager Steve Mauldin. "His years of experience in the Dallas/Fort Worth market make him a natural fit with Shannon, Julie and Teresa. I truly believe that they'll be the best local morning team on North Texas television."

Sams joins CBS 11 from KTEN-TV in Sherman, where he has anchored the evening and late newscasts for the past year. Prior to that, he spent almost 20 years as a news, weather and sports anchor for WFAA-TV. Throughout his career in broadcasting, Sams has anchored newscasts which received numerous awards, including three EMMY Awards and two Edward R. Murrow Awards.

"I am really excited to join the team at CBS 11," Sams said. "It's a TV station with momentum and one that's genuinely focused on making a positive difference in the community. I'm also happy to be returning to morning television, which is where I feel the best. Julie, Shannon and Teresa are consummate pros, and I'm looking forward to working with them."
