Belo to Get New Life?

Categories: Media

The answer to that question is: Uh, like, no? But we just got the damnedest press release that says Dallas-based Life Media Network International is planning by year's end "to acquire major media assets and companies," among them XM Satellite Radio, Clear Channel Communications and Belo Corporation. No shit. Says so right here, in the first line of the press release:

Specifically targeting companies such as ION Media Networks (formerly PAX Television Network), XM Satellite Radio, Clear Channel Communications and Belo Corporation, plans have been announced by LIFE MEDIA Network International to acquire major media assets and companies. Once these transactions have been consummated, LIFE MEDIA Network will be one of the largest radio-television networks in America, projected to be accomplished by the end of 2007, according to the Texas-based investment group’s spokesman, F. Emmett Snell.

So, uh, yeah. And they got God on their side and everything: According to his Life Media bio, bossman John Clemens is all about Christian radio broadcasting, and he's a deacon in his church in Carrollton. So there ya go. Other highlights:

LIFE MEDIA Network is implementing its plan to bring "Truth to the Nation".

And:

In an associated development, Snell said a Texas-based investment group, as of today, has made an offer to purchase TXU Energy. Discussions have been entered into with a major Texas-based energy/utility group as a participant, upon completion of the proposed purchase.

That's a lotta news to cram into one press release, the rest of which you can read down below. --Robert Wilonsky
