Anna Nicole Smith for Sale. Her Diaries, Anyway. Man, That Was Quick.

Categories: News

There are lot of amazing things in the forthcoming Heritage Auction Gallery entertainment and music memorabilia auction, which gets under way April 14 and 15 at the company's Uptown digs. There's Kurt Cobain's 1953 Martin acoustic guitar, for instance, which used to belong to Mary Lou Lord. There's Walt Disney's passport. There's an Elvis Presley-played guitar. There are plenty of original Marilyn Monroe photos and movie contracts and scads of stuff from the Ava Gardner estate, including gifts from Frank Sinatra. And there are some nifty rock photos about which we're writing tomorrow.

But here's one thing I missed whilst looking though the catalog for the event: two diaries penned by Anna Nicole Smith in the early 1990s, which, according to an Associated Press story that just moved, "reveal a troubled young woman who professed to be deeply in love with octogenarian oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, but who was often depressed and concerned about her eating habits." The AP got a sneak peek at the diaries, in which Smith wrote, "I've been really stressed out lately and depressed and I can't quit eating. I feel like a pig." According to Heritage officials, they got the journals and some other Anna Nicole stuff from "an anonymous German businessman" who purchased the items on eBay for more than $500,000 several weeks ago. Of course he did. --Robert Wilonsky
