St. Vincent and the Lord Vishu

Categories: Local Music

A couple of arts 'n' crafts notes with which to begin your day:

Well, at last it's official: I know you couldn't sleep at night, but the great St. Vincent (which is to say, Polyphonic Spree's Annie Clark) is indeed a rostermate of Badly Drawn Boy, Thom Yorke and Super Furry Animal's. We received word late last night that Clark has signed with Beggars Banquet, and that her debut full-length album is due July 10 -- about time, in other words. Till then, here's some video of Clark performing "Marry Me" in Cologne in November 2006, when she was opening for and performing with indie darling Sufjan Stevens.

And Lord Vishnu's Love Handles author Will Clarke sends word that on April 5, he'll be part of the Author Speak Lecture Series at the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 515 Young Street. The event starts at 7 p.m., tix are $30, and Clarke has this to add about the library fundraiser:

"I would very much like for you to join me for an evening of diverse opinions, profound insights and fascinating discussion with Dallas authors Harry Hunsicker, Mark Gimenez & myself. (At least this is what the Dallas Library website promises.)

I know my close friends and family already hear enough Will Clarke lectures on a daily basis for free, but the proceeds from these tickets will help make our public libraries stronger, better places for our kids and our community."

Damned do-gooders and their good-doin's. --Robert Wilonsky
