Or Maybe You Just Listen to Coldplay
Pride Radio DFW -- Clear Channel's new local radio endeavor aimed at Dallas/Ft. Worth's gay-lesbian-bi-transgender community ("the 6th largest in the nation and GROWING!") -- is getting plenty o' pub for being the first such station in the area. And while most of us here think it's way past time for a station like this, we were wondering whether this really was a gay radio station or one aimed at soccer moms (or maybe the soccer mom who was merely bi-curious in college, just that one time). To wit: The Web site says the station features "original mixes and re-mixes from artists like Madonna, Christina, Gwen, Justin, Scissor Sisters and more. And you know we're bringin' the Divas! Whitney, Donna Summer, and Janet Jackson all play here." Sounds like Radio Disney to us.
Can't you at least mention the Pet Shop Boys, Clear Channel? Or Erasure? Or Queen? Or Wham? Or Pansy Division, Antony and the Johnsons, mid-'70s Lou Reed, Bob Mould, Cole Porter, Indigo Girls (you're right, never mind), Joan Jett, Rufus Wainwright. Or..Judas Priest? Uh...Kenny Chesney? Just sayin'.
Then there's this: "[We'll] be dishing the latest dirt with celebrity gossip blogger, Perez Hilton." Oh, so it's actually for 14-year-old girls. Got it. "Plus, listen as they interview gay celebrities and icons such as RuPaul, Carson Kressley and Janice Dickinson. Upcoming guests include Amazing Race's Reichen Lehmkuhl; Joan Collins and former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey." Oh, sorry. It's an oldies station. M'bad.
C'mon, even Ann Coulter would listen to this. How do I know you're gay? You don't listen to Pride Radio DFW. Oh, and you can only get it on high-definition radio to begin with -- or your computer. That's not gay. That's just queer. --Robert Wilonsky
