Hard Rock Gone; Building to Stay, For Now

Categories: News

Because there's nothing slow about us, we just noticed that Angela Hunt posted to her Web site late last week a recap of last Wednesday's neighborhood get-together concerning the fate of the Hard Rock Cafe on McKinney Avenue, which went adios on Saturday. In short, she says, the new owner, Brett Landes, attended the meeting and "dispelled rumors that he was going to scrape the building to put in a CVS." (Indeed, notes Hunt, "I think the rumors got started because Landes owns many CVS stores.")

Hunt says that Landes actually wants to put in a jazz club-cum-restaurant into the space and that he has no intention of tearing it down. "He has done previous historic restoration projects," she writes, "and promised to do something that the neighborhood would be proud of." So there's that, for now. --Robert Wilonsky
