Theater Fire has covered an Elliott Smith song for a doc-in-progress called Future Butterflies.

This morning, while doing our semi-regular GooTube search for locally related postings, we found a brand-new Theater Fire song, which the band performed at the Granada Theater on Friday night. It's the rare homemade, shot-by-an-audience-member video that's actually both watchable and listenable. The clip's credited to "justinlloyd2," who's posted another unreleased song from the same show here. Who's Justin Lloyd? Turns out -- and thanks to our boy Sammy for this info -- he's a member of local "Indie/Rock/Experimental" act Hardin Sweaty and The Ready To Go. Now there's a name you won't soon forget, even if you try real hard.

Incidentally, we also owe Mr. Machkovech a debt of gratitude: At the end of last week, he posted an item about a documentary being made by a 27-year-old oil-and-gas industry data entry worker from Hurst named Jessica Peters. The subject: the late Elliott Smith, who did indeed spend some of his formative years in Dallas. Here's a link to the doc-in-progress' site.
