Eat Up, Then Listen Up
Remember back in the day, when you had to actually purchase a physical object in order to listen to music -- you know, records and CDs, as opposed to bits and bytes? And remember when that much-anticipated album was due out on some Tuesday, and you couldn't wait to hear it, and the anticipation grew as the drop date crept closer, and instead of lollygagging around waiting for sunup like a sane person, you lined up, along with dozens of other like-minded folks, at Sound Warehouse late Monday night, awaiting midnight, so that when the latest Smiths/Led Zeppelin/Madonna album would legally become available at 12:01 a.m., you'd be one of the first to get your greedy little hands on it? Yeah, you remember.
Whenever there's a highly anticipated record about to be released, the two will throw a Rock 'n' Roll Wine Dinner, during which Urbano will serve up a three-course Italian dinner (including wine) for a mere 30 bucks (where you gonna find a bargain like that anywhere?), while DJ CeePee spins soon-to-be-released discs, which will then be available for purchase at, yup, midnight the day of their release.
March 5 is the date for the second RNRWD and will feature new stuff from The Arcade Fire, Air, Apostle of Hustle, Bright Eyes, Albert Hammond, Jr., Gruff Rhys, RJD2, Son Volt and the Stooges (the first dinner featured the Shins new one, among others). Call Urbano at 214-969-6911 for more deets; festivities start at 7 p.m. Note the event comes one day after the Hard Rock Cafe, which is right next door to Urbano, closes its doors, so you can start a new tradition on the heels of an old one. Plus the food will be better. And cheaper. --Jonanna Widner
