A Glove Story

Jim Sundberg will always be our fave Rangers catcher. Pudge who? Yeah, you heard us.

You'd think with three of baseball's all-time 50 greatest fielders having passed through Arlington, the Rangers would've won something by now. Using that line of thinking, seems Dane Cook would've told a funny by now. Of course, you'd be wrong. But, at last, you can help rectify the Rangers' failure -- sorta.

The Rawlings glove company yesterday announced its ballot of the 50 greatest Gold Glovers over the past 50 years. Fans can pick the all-time team here, but if you don't include Roberto Clemente as one of your outfielders, you're dead to me. As for former Rangers, if Johnny Bench weren't one of the catcher candidates, then Jim Sundberg and Pudge Rodriguez might actually have a chance. And Buddy Bell at third? Not unless voters confuse this Brooks Robinson with this one.

The all-time Gold Glove team will be announced around the All-Star Game -- or about the same time we pronounce the tragic passing of another Rangers' season. --Richie Whitt
