Victory, Meet Vindication

Categories: Sports

As I told you a couple months ago, neither the Dallas Mavericks' collapse nor the city's premature parade plans were the fault of Celia Barshop. Yesterday, Dallas took steps to prevent its special events manager from ever again being conveniently abused as a scapegoat. You remember what you did last summer: Mavs go up on the Miami Heat 2-0 in the NBA Finals; you iced the champagne; the city released parade plans; the Heat rallied to win; and we all deteriorated into dehydrated zombies.

It wasn't Barshop's decision, but rather her duty, that mandated the unveiling of those plans, which supposedly provided the Heat some extra incentive to win a championship. Me? I find it extremely difficult to believe Miami wasn't already motivated, but whatever.

Now, pushed by Barshop, the Dallas City Council's public safety committee votes 4-1 to mute the details until a victory is actually won, not just flirted with. No word yet on plans for a victory parade to celebrate the quashing of victory parade plans. --Richie Whitt
