J-E-T...Uh...J-E-...

Adrian Jones was All-District at Carter. Now, he's a New York Jet--and has something else in common with Joe Namath.

You ever see Adrian Jones play football, back when he was named first-team All-District during his senior season at Carter High School? Me, neither. Guess he must have been pretty good: Went on to play for Kansas, where he moved from tight end to offensive tackle right before his senior season. And he's a tough guy: Says here he "made a full recovery after suffering a serious head injury in 1999 on Thanksgiving weekend when his car blew a tire and rolled, [and he] spent three days in intensive care at Wichita's Medical Center." Jones was eventually taken by the New York Jets in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2004 NFL draft.

But Jones is still a Texas guy at heart. How do we know this? Because when he was stopped by Nassau County police officers early Saturday morning, he gave officers his Texas driver's license. And why, oh, why was he stopped? Guess. OK. One hint: It was 4:25 in the morning.

OK, you got it. It's because he was driving drunk, say authorities, who arrested and charged Jones with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. But he issued a statement last night: "I am deeply sorry for my actions and for putting myself before the team. I apologized to my family, my teammates and my coaches for my behavior. I used poor judgment and will be held accountable for it."

Oh, c'mon. It's not that bad. Authorities say they pulled him over for "driving very slowly in the far right lane and changing lanes without signaling at 4:25 a.m. when a police officer spotted him." Adrian Jones, Michael Irvin laughs at your bad behavior. And don't even ask Joe Namath about this. --Robert Wilonsky
