The Seat of Heat

Categories: Stage

Sure, we critics dish it out, but can we take it? We'll find out Wednesday night at Art & the Critic, a free event at the McKinney Avenue Contemporary sponsored by Kitchen Dog Theater and Project X. On the panel with your humble theatergoing scribe from the paper version of Unfair Park will be Dallas Voice critic Arnold Wayne Jones and DMNers Lawson Taitte and Scott Cantrell. Moderator Tom Sime is a former Dallas Observer and DMN critic who now runs the business side of Contemporary Theater of Dallas.

Among topics the panelists are expected to jaw about: What is the role of the critic in the arts? How do arts groups get more coverage? And what does the loss of so many DMN arts writers in the recent buyouts mean for the Dallas arts community? And if there's time, I'll be on bended knee, begging theater groups not to do A Doll's House, Our Town or King Lear ever, ever, ever again. Unless they add nudity and free cake.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Bare-knuckle cage match between critics and actors begins at 8. The MAC is located at 3120 McKinney Ave. Directions are here. See you there. --Elaine Liner
