Re: Damn the Man

Categories: Media

In case you missed it yesterday, Richie Whitt wrote about how KTCK-AM (1310, The Ticket) management yanked a replaying of an on-air exchange between the "Dunham and Miller" morning show and Norm Hitzges, who hosts the 10 a.m. to noon slot. It had to do with Hitzges' dismal showing in his so-called "Picks of the Pole"...uh, service. Norm and his producer, Mark Friedman, got into it with morning show "yuk monkey" Gordon Keith about the research involved in the picking of games, and it soon deteriorated into a rambling argument about how Keith's fond of mocking the dead and other things that irritate the longtime local sports-talk vet.

"How damn many years do you know I've been doing picks?" Hitzges asked Keith. "You don't have any freakin' idea... I don't want to hear that you're an innocent little girl with a basket heading through the woods to grandmother's house. I don't want to hear it."

This morning, Craig Miller, George Dunham and Keith said they couldn't understand why listeners thought the exchange was that big a deal; they claimed they were tickled by Richie's item and not a little confounded by it, because, well, it was just much ado about nothing. (This, despite Miller's saying during the confrontation, "I cannot cut this tension with a knife.") Well, if you want to hear it for yourself, a thoughtful Friend of Unfair Park sent a link to the entire discussion. Enjoy. --Robert Wilonsky
