Don't know how I missed this, but on Tuesday, the local alternative-fuel company Earth Biofuels Inc. announced that Julia Roberts will act as the company's spokesperson--and, get outta here, chair its brand-new advisory board. In a statement issued by the company, Roberts said, "It's very important that we expand our use of clean energy and make a long-term commitment to it. Biodiesel and ethanol are better for the environment and for the air we breathe." If nothing else, this'll get her better seats at Willie Nelson concerts.
If you don't know much about Earth Biofuels Inc., well, its headquarters are on Knox Street; its chairman and CEO is a guy named Dennis McLaughlin, who's been involved in everything from high-speed Internet to renewable fuel; Willie Nelson and Morgan Freeman are minority owners, according to the company's Securities and Exchange Commission filings; its spokesperson is based in Los Angeles; and last week, Herbert Meyer, former special assistant to the director of central intelligence under Ronald Reagan, was appointed to Earth Biofuel's board of directors.
