Lollapa-you-za
Charles Attal Presents, the Austin-based booking company that attracts all those quality bands to the Gypsy Tea Room, is also responsible for Chicago's Lollapalooza Music Festival. Yeah, that's too far of a drive for most of us, but we got a note from CAP today about a promotion that should be of at least minor interest to locals. The fest's Last Band Standing contest will award one band out of--geez--hundreds a slot at one of the fest's three days; voting's open to the public right now, and after June 30, an "industry panel" (including Lolla founder Perry Farrell) will reduce the top 100 to the top 20, and then the public gets to vote again. Bands can still sign up, but the ones who're there already have a head start in the voting pool. Dallasites currently on the site include the incredibly young Minority and the incredibly radio-desperate Stellamaris...really, that's it? Technically, the Lemurs are from Austin, but their drummer's from Dallas. Otherwise, more Dallas bands should sign on.
