Air to Care

Categories: News

If you at all care about the air you breathe or the water you drink or the land upon which you live, by all means carve out a few hours this morning and early afternoon for a conference being sponsored by the Greater Dallas Chamber. It's called the Environmental Seminar and promises to deliver such folks as State Senator Kip Averitt, Dallas County Judge Margaret Keliher, Kathleen Hartnett White (who's the chair of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality), John Hall (executive director of the Texas Environmental Research Consortium), city of Dallas Environmental Manager Frances Verhalen, city of Dallas Office of Environmental Quality director Laura Fiffick and others from private industry. They'll be discussing everything from Texas and Dallas' air quality (in short: not so hot, unless you like level red air pollution days) to Dallas and Fort Worth's storm water programs (you were here for that March flood, right?) to the Environmental Protection Agency's Brownfields program (hey, we were just talking about that yesterday) to alternative fuels (because what would an environmental discussion if someone didn't mention ethanol and biodiesel?). The thing starts right now, at 7:30 a.m., and runs till 1:45 p.m. at the Cityplace Conference Center, which is at 2711 N. Haskell Ave. It costs $100 if you don't belong to the Chamber and only $60 if you do. So, hurry. Me, I can't make it. I gotta go hear the city manager talk about the bond election in four hours. Gotta prep myself. Do a little exercise. Take another nap. Something. --Robert Wilonsky
