Southwest: They Do PR Wright

Dunno if this has anything to do with winning over folks who, for whatever reason, don't think Joe Barton's a schmuck--the Congressman known as "Smoky Joe" had a piece in Dallas' Only Daily recently insisting the airline move from Love Field to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport--but Southwest Airlines announced late yesterday it's contributing 35,000 jars of peanut butter to food banks across the country. Southwest is doing this in conjunction with America's Second Harvest, which bills itself as the nation's largest food bank network; the announcement is timed to make Southwest look extra good, since National Hunger Awareness Day is right around the corner on June 6, and Southwest's peanut-butter drive takes place throughout the entire month. Hey, it may not seem like a lot, but it's more than most of us are doing to feed the needy--and all American Airlines is doing these days is funding phony grassroots pro-Wright efforts and selling more stock to raise enough dough to keep the airline aloft.
