Nothin' Feels Good as Suede

Categories: Sports

I know what you're thinking. Is the TAKS test really that hard? Who the hell is Jimmy Hoffa? How did the refs not call a foul on San Antonio's Tony Parker for clearly grabbing a handful of Dirk Nowitzki's jersey on the potential series-winning tip at the buzzer? And, hmmm, whatever happened to Joe Avezzano?

As for Spurs 98, Mavs 97, yes, it was a foul. But the bigger problem is Mavs coach Avery Johnson running the crucial play for Jason Terry instead of his All-NBA first-team stud. That's two Mavs playoff losses, by two points and one point. Neither time has Dirk taken the last shot.

As for Coach Joe, he's alive and, well, opening a bar on Lower Greenville this weekend. The former Dallas Cowboys special teams coach with three Super Bowl rings went on to coach the Desperados and last year was on Norv Turner's staff in Oakland. But this weekend he'll be at Joe Avezzano's Suede Bar & Grill, which boasts Texas' largest rooftop patio. That's a bold claim, and we'll gladly be the judges of that. There's a fancy-shmancy VIP party Friday and a grand opening on Saturday, featuring appearances by former Cowboy Darren Woodson and a musical set or two by John Corbett of Sex and the City kinda-sorta fame. Actually wearing suede is optional. I hope. --Richie Whitt
