Drumming Up Business

Categories: Local Music

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that Alec Lancaster is among the coolest kids in the Plano Independent School District. After all, how many other 14-year-olds do you know with an endorsement deal with a major drum manufacturer? None, unless you know Alec Lancaster. Turns out the drummer for teen rockers Minority discovered how to sell out very early in life: Today, it was announced, Lancaster joins the likes of Travis Barker (Blink-182), Cyrus Bolooki (New Found Glory), John Otto (Limp Bizkit), Erik Sandin (NOFX), Branden Steineckert (The Used) and Adrian Young (No Doubt) as a pitchman for Orange County Drum and Percussion. The company's president and founder Daniel Jensen says he decided to snare Lancaster after the band's performance at the Vans Warped Tour last summer--even though Minority doesn't even have a label deal, just a few songs on its Web site that sound like every other band that thinks Blink-182 invented punk. But, hey, they're just kids--and now one of them has an endorsement deal. Gosh, they grow up so fast; I didn't get the chance to whore myself out till well into my 30s. --Robert Wilonsky
