Whose Internet? Smokey Joe's, Duh.

Categories: Schutze

Well, if you visit here, you can see what Smokey Joe Barton's congressional committee did to the Internet today. The House Committee on Energy and Commerce, of which Barton is chair, voted out a bill sponsored by him that would give phone companies all kinds of new rights to peddle broadband stuff like internet TV. But they declined to do anything to protect "Internet neutrality," which is what makes the Internet a peoples' thing instead of a corporate thing. Joe says it's all good.

"This legislation can increase competition not only for cable services, but also unleash a race for who can supply the fastest, most-sophisticated broadband connections that will provide video, voice and data services," the Menace from Ennis says on the the committee's Web page, which you can get to for free because of Internet neutrality. For now.

Or, you could go to Savetheinternet.com and see what they say Joe and his Republican buddies are up to. They say if Joe gets his way, "Congress will cave to a multi-million dollar lobbying campaign by telephone and cable companies that want to decide what you do, where you go, and what you watch online." You are the decider. For now. --Jim Schutze
