Ignorance is Bliss
When an athlete screws up, we cover it like World War III. So when an asshole finally apologizes, shouldn't we cover it like a peace treaty? I think so and wrote as much in my Observer column last week, detailing the secret settlement between Kenny Rogers and Larry Rodriguez, the KDFW-Channel 4 cameraman Rogers assaulted last summer. Seems the Detroit Free Press and Fort Worth Star-Telegram agree that an exclusive story revealing closure on one of baseball's biggest stories is indeed news. But apparently The Dallas Morning News doesn't. Six days after we broke the story, exclusive readers of Dallas' Only Daily curiously remain clueless, which again reminds us of the paper's long-standing motto: "When we get beat on a story, pretend it never happened." --Richie Whitt
