Show Me the Highlights: Sorry, Kid, But You Can't Watch ESPN Right Now. Maybe Later.

OLDESPNlogo.jpeg
For the last year, my 8-year-old boy's had a morning routine that involves watching SportsCenter and reading SportsDay over breakfast. Today he wanted to watch highlights from last night's Stars win over the Capitals, 5-2, making Dallas tops in the NHL -- big news 'round our house in the absence of pro basketball, which doesn't appear to be in any rush to return to the hardwood. But we had cancel the boy's programming plans, given the Penn State sex-abuse story that now dominates the network -- all others too.

He follows along just enough to know the name Joe Paterno, now on the verge of retiring, according to most reports; he's aware of the coach's stature, his legend. But yesterday the boy asked what the ESPN anchors meant by the "inappropriate touching" of young boys; and so, off the TV went while we fumbled for an explanation. Then he wondered why basketball players and owners can't agree on how to chop up their millions. Sigh. I suggested perhaps we just go outside and throw around the football till first bell. Said he, "Good idea."

Good job Bobbo, lets go throw the ball around a little bit..dang sportstuff being all ding dang serious..if'n I wanted seriousness in sports I'd watch Bryant Gumbel..(NOOO, I don't want sports seriousness)  I want to throw the ball around and shoot the shit, think back to DKR's option offense and James Brown's miraculous third down roll out and throw to win the 1st Big 12 championship.

I'm hoping Jonathan Gray doesn't see Brown and Bergeron racking up all these yards and think, ah, might want to reevaluate my commitment. Fozzy has been reborn. I'd say right now that Texas has the perfect 3 headed monster at running back. I like Ash better than McCoy, simply because he'll pull the ball down and run, but I'm still torn a little bit.  I really like what MackHarsin has done with numbering his tackle with a tight end number(can't remember the kid's name). Semi-genius. You know at the right time they're going to have that guy go to the end zone, I just hope his big lineman hands can catch the ball.

I said the same thing yesterday, to good hookem friend in the hospital, about Gray.  Bergeron is a freaking monster, Brown is high quality...I can see Gray catching little flank passes next year against the 8 man front and running wild.

I said when the season started that Ash was the guy we would go with, that being said..I don't know what McCoy did to lose the Co-starter position..other than not throwing 3 interceptions against Zero U..like Ash did.

I love what Harsin has done with everything..I love the Wild horn (finally figured out how to use Fozwitt)..I love the extra "tight ends"..I love the Power run..I love Cody Johnson smashing people..I love the other FB with the mullet. I would not love a pass to the OL/TE dude.

Me and the wifey are going to the bowl game if'n Hookem stays in the Great State..might make it down to Waco on 12/3 too. (I still go down to George's and drink my beer, drink my beer-Pat Green)

@ Mizzou this weekend: Gonna be tough to win, but newfound emphasis on the power running game may be enough. Loss

KSU in Austin: KSU always gives us a hard time, Loss...unless running game is for real.

@ Agg for the last time: We're gonna win this one, and send them stoopid ags off in style.

@Baylor: We're gonna win this one, Horns don't lose to the little Bears of the Brazos more than once a decade.

8 and 4, enough for the Cotton?  Alamo? Greater Houston Toilet Bowl?  I'm hoping for Cotton or Alamo..

Gray should smarten up and head over to TCU for some real Big12 playing time and he can still catch some home cooking whenever he wants. The kid down at Spring Dekaney (Trey Williams, headed to A&M) is playing tomorrow. He has put up similar numbers as Gray this year against 5A competition (Gray had the slight edge). Aledo threw for 2300 yards while Dekany threw for less than 1000 so defenses could key on Williams more.

in reply to MD, I can't see Ash not being the starter next year..but that being said, We've seen Mack "utilize" the 2qb offense with Simms and Applewhite..cost us a Natl Championship.

Ok lets spit some Horns....

9-3

@Mizzou: Win. Mizzou wont be able to handle the run game.

KSU: Loss. No way the defense stands up to that.

@aggy: Win. UT runs for 400 yards and aggies cry...

Bear: Win. That team is crap and overrated.

Cotton Bowl versus Auburn?

Lets move on to next season.  Will Ash be the starter here in 2012?  I think yes but they do have a pretty good recruit in Connor Brewer heading to campus this spring.  I love what Mack has done here and we may not see the fruits of their labor until the 2013 campaign but what he is building looks alot like a blueprint for elite SEC teams.  He has the RB's in the fold and on the way.  I hope that Brewer pans out and the defense can continue its improvement.

You know, this home of ours doesnt just have to be sports related.  If some of your other writers have a blog item that might be interesting to this collection of misfits, slap it over here too.  It is a good way to keep us quarantined and get your other writers some exposure and page hits.

Gagreed MD..although I enjoy my excursions to the City of Ate from time to time..I too would welcome LLD talking about the demise of the three down linebacker and the influence of the Flex offense in the college game.  Shitting ya, more Bob..more Bob.

If'n I was running PSU, I would run anyone that knew anything right out of town..last Friday when the news first broke.  They are making Dave Bliss look wholesome and caring.

No kidding. All Bliss did was blame a dead guy for drug dealing. This is infinitely worse.

And Joe P. decides to retire at the end of the season. Does he deserve to be allowed to?

Funny reply from a commenter on Deadspin."Finally he can now focus all of his energies on Pixar's Up 2. But I think that little boy in the Boyscouts uniform will be a bit more on edge this time around."

An older woman with a younger male is called a Cougar. An older man with a young male is called a Nittany Lion.IMO, JoePa needs to go. I don't know how much he knew, but if a grad. assistant comes to you with that kind of an allegation, how do you associate yourself with that kind of guy? I've thought the same thing about it, like if one of my friends was accused of this. You immediately distance yourself from that person. I'm just amazed and disgusted this guy got away with it as long as he did. You can't tell me his wife wasn't suspicious. Supposedly, the amount of victims coming forward has doubled in the past two days, and I expect that to increase. This guy should get the death penalty. So much rambling, I'm just so pissed about this.

I dont know whether to applaud that or vomit.  I will do both.
