Rangers Closer to Raising AL West Pennant, Funds for Shannon Stone

Categories: Texas Rangers

Yep, the Angels somehow lost to this laughable outfit again last night -- Anaheim has given up the division by going 5-9 against the A's -- shoving the Rangers' lead in the AL West up to 3 with 15 remaining and trimming their magic number to 13.

Nelson Cruz should be off the DL and back in the lineup tonight against the Cleveland Indians.

And, more good news, tonight at Rangers Ballpark Fox Sports Southwest will host a special benefit to raise funds for the Shannon Stone Memorial Fund. You know my thoughts on Stone and his family.

Kudos to FSSW for trying to help a good family make the best of a horrible situation.

"We want to respectfully honor the memory of Shannon Stone," said FOX Sports Southwest Senior Vice President/General Manager Jon Heidtke. "The outpouring of support for the Stone family from the community and our partners has been overwhelming. Everyone wants to comfort the family, but most people don't know how they can help. We hope that through this benefit we'll be able to provide a vehicle for fans and the community to participate."

During tonight's game FSSW will host a live, online auction here. John Rhadigan will host the event, featuring items available for bidding like ...

5) If you're feeling a bit lost, go to your local Audi car parts shop and ask an expert. After this you can move onto the next store and see if you get the same answers. This can be a good way to see if the advice is reliable or whether the staff are just trying to sell you a stereo. Shopping around is the most effective way of getting the right stereo at the right price.

When are we getting a hard-hitting piece on Hamilton's paternity leave?

Rangers/Observer Mystery night--- try and find the missing RW follow up article of Lewis/Kins paternity leave. Along with diner at Dukes, you and a freind will go shopping for New worn out jeans, matching hoop earings/ball caps, and to finish the night off, you'll each receive barb-wire arm tattoos. Winner must supply their own Ed Hardy shirts under a long sleave shirt in order to blend in while in Addison.

Looks like everyone donated something except for Jerry Jones and the Mehboys. What a cheap bastard. I would of thought that Romo would at least give something, look at all the points he gave the Jets Sunday night.

Observer has spent a lot of time promoting all of the charity events for the Stone family.  That's all well and good, but meanwhile:

"Your search for 'todd Krodle' did not return any results."

Krodle is a 41 year old Dallas Fire Department Lieutenant that died last month, while fighting a fire.

Would anyone really bid on the Be a FOX Sports Broadcaster package? Having to hang out with Jim Knox during a game seems more like a punishment than a treat.

Wow. Two sentences of "analysis" tacked on to a cut-n-paste press release. The Observer keeps Whitt around for this? Maybe that's all they want out of him. If that's the case, good fit. Hack writer mailing it in every day and kissing up to the big organizations.

The Observer is really OK with this? Why don't they want a relevant sports blog?

Yet another PR copy-and-paste.

Does the fund benefit anyone other than his family? How much more money needs to go to them if not? And that's a serious question--I'm sure his son's college is paid for now and their finances are adequately set--there's many, many other families out there that could use money, likes ones affected by wildfires.

Methinks RW is waiting on his hair to grow in...which will happen first?  I'm taking the article actually.

Shouldn't Josh Hamilton now be added to the paternity leave story?  He took last Friday off while his wife gave birth to his fourth child.  The team won, but they could have lost and it would have been all Hamilton's fault, you know!

Good point and I see where you're coming from. It's like with the 9/11 families, they got millions each, and there was a lot left over. If anything, I just want to make sure the money gets to the right place and not some charity to pay for their 200k/year president.

You actually wouldn't have to do that Rooster. If you didn't want it, you just wouldn't place a bid for it.

Thanks. But I think "nutkicking" infers taking it to RW just because he's an idiot, douche and lousy writer. I'm more frustrated at the lack of decent sports coverage in DFW. The DMN is behind a paywall and lost most of their good writers. The Observer has this shit. I like Mavs Moneyball and Blogging the Boys, but they're just too specialized for me sometimes.

If there's a decent all-purpose DFW sports blog, I'm not aware of it. It should be this one, but we're stuck with...Whitt.
