No Matter Where Texas and Oklahoma Wind Up, Texas-OU Will Survive in Dallas ... or Arlington

Texas-OU Cotton Bowl.jpg
After a meeting last weekend of school power brokers -- including UT president William Powers and OU grand poobah David Boren -- it's clear that Texas-OU Weekend will survive regardless of where the Longhorns and Sooners wind up in this chaotic restructuring of conferences.

According to a source familiar with the talks, even if OU, as expected, bolts the Big 12 for the Pac 12 and Texas stays behind -- or goes Independent -- the Texas-OU game will still be played in the metroplex.

The Red River Rivalry game, played in Dallas since 1900, has a contract to stay in Dallas' Cotton Bowl through 2015. After that ...

The schools will seriously consider relocating the series to either a home-and-home schedule with games alternately played in Austin and Norman, or moving west to Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

The good news: Texas-OU will continue playing.

The bad news: Probably only in Dallas for another five years.
