Rangers Take Another Step Toward Peaking ... and October

Categories: Texas Rangers

Rangers - Angels.jpg
Seven games up with 38 games remaining. Magic number down to 32 (smallest in baseball along with the Brewers and Phillies). Three of the first four in the bag already in Anaheim, with a chance to sweep tonight.

For those of us who make a living bitchin' and moanin' about this or that with the Rangers, these are bad great times.

After Wednesday night's 4-3 win over the Angels -- thanks to a gutty blooper by Ian Kinsler -- it's clear that whatever was ailing Neftali Feliz a month ago is corrected. He had fire in his eyes and velocity on his fastball, hitting 100 mph on the TV's radar gun.

Still six weeks to go in the regular season and, yeah, stranger things than blowing a 7-game lead this late has happened in baseball. But at this point -- 20 games over .500 for the first time since 1999 -- the Rangers are all but chilling the champagne, attempting to catch the Yankees and Red Sox for the best record in the AL and fine-tuning a club that is pretty well humming along.

Feliz at closer? Check.

Starting pitching (evidenced again by C.J. Wilson last night)? Check.

Middle relief (don't look now but, yeah, Mark Lowe)? Check.

Set-up men (despite the homer allowed Wednesday by Koji Uehara)? Check.

Mike Napoli's catching? Check.

Navigate Nelson Cruz's quad and Josh Hamilton's back. Get Adrian Beltre healthy. Improve Elvis Andrus' defensive focus on the casual plays. Somehow limit Kinsler's pop-ups.

Other than that, the Rangers seem ready for October.

Is Ron Washington tagged because he's the manager, even though he isn't specifically mentioned anywhere in the article? I'm having a hard time figuring out your system.

What was ailing Feliz was that he was throwing his fastball too much. Bengie Molina talked to him and told him to use his changeup more. He's been on his game ever since. If your head hadn't been up Jerry's ass the last month, you would have known that. Dave and Tom bring it up a lot.

I was wondering why Bengie's visit was better examined in here, but that happened before RW started trying to get back on the bandwagon..and none of us wrote too much about it.

This isn't W on an aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf, no mission is accomplished yet. They're in a damn good position, and they also have a hard schedule the next couple weeks. If the Rangers don't spit the bit and the Angels don't get on a run and make hay, I'll be willing to make a September 1 victory proclamation. But on August 18? Not a chance.

Lot's of tough baseball left to be played.

Rangers are in a good stretch right now, 7 game lead in the middle of August is about as big as Sloppy's vocabulary...It would be John Holmes/RW'bald spot- sized in the middle of September.Let's get this thing into Mid-September before we start making parade routes ladies, RW is just shoveling what he thinks we want to hear.  I gagree with Scruffy, tap them brakes a little.

So boys, how you feeling this morning?  Im telling ya'll its over.  So lets talk about playoff expectations!!! Ill be happy with an ALCS appearance, anything less is a disappointment.  Got my mailer from the Rangers for playoff tickets.  Gotta buy 11 games but it'll be well worth it.

Anything less than the Superbowl is failure.

I was lucky enough to go to two playoff games last year; one ALDS & one ALCS. Told the wife I will trade both for one WS ticket this year.  Crossing fingers...

Awesome game last night, and it does look like the little red shoes are peaking at the right time.

For a Japanese guy, that Uehara sure does show some fire, anyone notice how he always yells into his glove when he gets out of an inning?  I know he was pissed last night for giving up the homer, but he's always fired up it seems.  Me gusta.

Hey, RW, lets revisit your checklist after the seven games against the Red Sox.

The Rangers are a top 4 team against the AL West. Against the other divisions and the NL, well, not so much buddy.

thats the stupidist shit ever holmes.  They finished the year last year as the 2nd best team in baseball.  They currently are 20 games over .500, 3rd best record in AL 5th in MLB.  Every division has shitty teams in it who the top dogs beat up on.  Wrap your head around those facts, before I wrap myself around you

We own the Red Sox dude...We'll go 5-2 at minimum in those seven games...Mark it!

Eff the Red Sox and Eff me too, hopefully your tool is better than Sloppy Joe's.   Cant people get there heads around the idea that the Rangers are a top 4 team in baseball?  The players aren't scared of them and for fucks sake, we slayed the Yankees
