The Rangers Keep Walking Off to Hold Off the Angels

Josh Hamilton - Walk-Off.jpg
Driving back from San Antonio last night I was re-introduced to the Rangers.

Hello, drama!

After overcoming deficits of 7-2 and 3-0 in the 8th inning in wins over the Indians last weekend, the Rangers -- thanks to a bad, postpartum outing by Alexi Ogando -- spotted the lowly Mariners a 6-3 lead after three innings.

The latest, greatest comeback actually began with the bullpen. Two scoreless innings by Yoshinori Tateyama and one each by Mark Lowe (who's decent all the sudden), Darren Oliver, Mike Adams (who struck out the side) and Neftali Feliz allowed Texas a chance.

Ian Kinsler made it interesting with a two-run homer in the 7th, Yorvit Torrealba made it dramatic with a game-tying double in the 8th and -- who else? -- Josh Hamilton made it another walk-off win.

Seattle sucks. No way around that. In the 8th the Mariners botched a pick-off of Nelson Cruz that could've, should've ended a scoreless inning for Texas. And in the bottom of the 9th Mariners' relievers allowed a walk, botched an attempted sacrifice bunt and then surrendered Hamilton's game-winning bloop single for a 7-6 Texas win.

The Rangers made two juicy deadline trades to strengthen their bullpen and last night showed why. The relievers won this game, holding Seattle in check in what was on the verge of becoming a blowout loss.

Rangers' bullpen: 6.1 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 2 walks, 9 strikeouts.

Mariners' bullpen: 2.0 innings, 4 runs, 4 hits, 4 walks, 2 strikeouts.

Ouch.

With the win, the Rangers reduced their magic number to clinch their second consecutive AL West to 45. Too soon?

But something that doesn't translate to long-commute radio: What's this Eric Nadel was talking about last night? Something about a new, serpent-like hand gesture the Rangers are now doing?

Claw. Antlers. Snake?

Does anyone know what the new snake sign is all about?

The new hand gesture is called the cobra.  They do it when they "attack" a weak move, meaning when the defense tries to get slick and overshift or something and they defeat it.  Get that weak ass kung foo out of here, our kung foo is strong.  Cobra Strike!

Since I know, in these waters lurk, big time writermen like Newberg and Wilonsky (Guys, y'all should open up a combo Steak and Lawyer Ale..in Uptown..You'd get sillier richer)..Here's the lead folks: Since Bengie had a talk with Neffy, IT IS ON! #bullpenison

Geez Sportsters. You got one Rangers post, and you shoot your wad. Your next Ranger post? A week from today, unless they go into a slump and the Angels take a lead on them, he'll be right on top of it. Simple equations:Rangers + doing good = no reportingRangers + shitty game + Angels win = mentionRangers + paternity leave = columnRangers + pitcher coming back from leave and bad outing + win = update on Rangers w/immediate mention of paternity issue

"Rangers + paternity leave = column" in the legendary Norm Hitzges's voice: " I don't think that's right... (atleast I haven't seen the infamous fixing ta rip them a new ass for paternity leave column that was supposed to be coming after the Mav's title run.)

No disrespect to those orientals, but that Tateyama is doing what we call some mighty fine Jap play. Here is what I got on him through 21 AAA and 32 Majors innings this year:

53 innings 8 walks 60 strikeouts 2.55 era

Welp, methinks RW needs to answer Rich Philips call...get a freaking Tivo dude, then you could watch the little redshoes on your iphong while at Baby Dolls or the Riverwalk.  Way to throw us a bone on the little Redshoes. Didn't think the postpartem dig was required, but your the paid writer.  The local papers have been asking guys what the new hand signal is for a week atleast, everyone has replied that other teams have stolen the claw so they came up with something new..and their not ready to tell everyone what it is yet.  That's called a tease, methinks.Hate that Beltre was reinjured and is gonna be out another three weeks, really hurting the Broken Shoulders...still in third though and Mert jumped back out to 1st last night.

I hear the commercials for Slingbox all the time. No excuse for RW - a PAID sports journalist - to not be able to keep up with the local sports scene.

Im starting to hate having the stud hitting team I do because when they all go in a slump the same month, I cant dump and chase with the guys in the FA market.  I just gotta hope it turns around soon.

I thought I had a decent night, and didn't get .5 point..that's the way baseball go.  I'm in the same boat, because if the Redshoes don't score 12 runs then I'm not making points.

Whooohooo, rangers talk, and good post at that. See I can be nice too, but I'm here for one reaon and my name says it all, if post 2 and 3 are mailed in, ill nail hime for it.

Doesn't matter how good or bad the team is, you just have to win that game that day. Anyhow, a couple bats need this shitty mariners team to help them wake up.

In honor of this post I give yu all this

Bats, they are sick. I cannot hit curve ball. Straight ball I hit very much. Curve ball bats are afraid. I ask Jobu to come, take fear from bats. I offer him cigar and rum. He will come.

You know you might think about taking jesus christ as your savior instead of fooling around with all that stuff

Shit harris

Ahhh, I like him very much but he no help me hit curveball

You trying to say jesus christ can't. Hit a curveball?

Let's not start a holy war now

This shit right here is disgusting; gets REAL old; and is NOT even a little bit funny. VERY sophomoric.

+1 internet point for proper use of "sophomoric".

Bravo.

Yes, the Mariners are terrible, but to be fair, Endy Chavez executed one of the best sacrifice bunts I've ever seen. He would have easily beaten the throw to first had the ball been fielded cleanly.
