Guess A&M Finally Listened to its Own Fight Song

Like a lot of Aggie traditions, how is their nonsensical, yet sacred War Hymn going to sound in the SEC?

Good bye to Texas University; So long to the orange and white

Imagine the curious looks in Florida's Swamp when the Aggies, trailing 42-7 in the third quarter, start singing about about a team from another conference?

Make no mistake, the Aggies are gone and Gig 'Em to the SEC. I'm hearing -- though it didn't happen yesterday -- that the SEC's Sunday decision was more pause-button than eject. With a time frame of 21 days, no doubt this will be A&M's final season in the Big 12.

As for the state's biggest, best team ...

Saturday in Austin there was a Longhorns' scrimmage so secretive that invited guests were subjected to a pat-down and forced to surrender their cell phones. A guy I know that attended doesn't have video or pics to document it, but he swears quarterback Garrett Gilbert looked shitty.

Maybe he'll be better come November 24 in College Station, in what could be the storied rivalry's 118th and final meeting.

That was the second verse.  There is a first verse - hop they use it!

Sadly, Texas has such little school spirit, they don't even know "Goodbye to A&M" is the first part of their fight song. :(  Too busy talking sh*t to learn the words, I suppose.

The Aggies and t-sips will continue to play each other every year. Too much history and money tied into the Lone Star Showdown not to.

Maybe we can just replace "Texas" with "Tennessee"?  Gig em!

Hey, RW, since 2009, my Aggies have EIGHT National Titles and that other school in Austin has one. Get the facts right, you UTA'er.

Right. A while back, the high school from which I graduated won state championships in virtually every sport they could: basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, volleyball, and so on. Boys and girls teams dominated equally. But the football team didn't make the playoffs so all I heard was whining about how "lousy" the school was at "sports".

Garrett is terrrrible. Along with the running game, he's been the single biggest problem with UT. I wish Mack didn't feel so Chris Simmsish about him. A little competition might light a fire under his ass.

Good analogy to Simms, I will believe till the day I die..if Major had of been the sole QB his senior year..we woulda won the Championship. Coulda been a contender I tell ya.

So Richie, you're saying that the best team in the state went 5-7 and failed to make a bowl game when there were a mere 33 of them played.  Guess you don't think much of college football in this state.

EDIT: in reply to Scruffy,

If the final product is a four/five super conferences....

Well, that would piss off UT with OU, OSU, AM going to the SEC. Leaving UT to go independent.

The biggest loser is TCU, they should have been added to the Big 12 before Colorado and Nebraska scooted. I don't know who else should've been added, SMU maybe, but those questions/answers are gone.

Gerald Ford Stadium (SMU) is waaaaaaaay too tiny for the Big 12.

The object of the game in any conference realignment is TV dollars.  Small schools like SMU and TCU don't translate into more TV $, because their alumni base isn't big enough.

TCU currently has a great football team, but a great football team in and of itself isn't enough to put eyes on TV sets.

Though I do not have a dog in this hunt (go UNT!), Thanksgiving weekends will not be the same if they end up not playing each other every year.

I'm a LSU alum.

A&M is gonna have to do one helluva fundraiser to get the money to be competitive in recruiting players.

Quoting Randy Newman,   "College men,  from LSU.   Went in dumb,  come out dumb too!"

Aggies tired of playing in UT's shadow now heading towards playing in LSU's shadow. Bad recruiting blood in the past between those two schools resulted in no season contests since they played each other every year up until the early 70s.

Future SEC add teams, to the west: A&M, Okl, Okl St, and to the east Miami, Fla St. and either VT, Virginia, Clemson. Just my .02.

Tech get's in before OK State. Follow the money. It's all about the money.

Sturms_Bloody_Rectum

No, the OK government has it set with OK and OSU as a package deal. Both schools have to be in the same conference.

You want them at 18 teams?

I wish for this chaos so the Big 12 gets desperate and invites my Colorado State in, but that's a pipe dream at best. More likely it leads to the implosion of the Big 12 depending on what UT and OU do and a conference like the Mountain West swoops in to pick at the warmest carcases.

I do not think Colorado State would get a nod from the B12 - 2 (3?)

More likely programs would include: Houston, TCU, BYU, SMU.  They would do well to look at Boise.

I feel for my jayhawks.  We will be left holding a big bag o' nothin when this is done.  I pray they head east, any move west would be stupid and I damn sure dont want to stay up and watch 11 pm starts in the WAC where KU would destroy every team.  Although that might help our football team win a few more games

Pretty sure A&M is going to make UT look like UTEP this season, much to the chagrin of the giant base of Longhorn fans who've never set foot in a college classroom because it'd require their dumb ass gets accepted first.

I kinda see why they want to move, kinda don't. Their football team will become the Baylor of the SEC, which means the oversharing Aggies will have to find other ways to let all of us who don't care know they went there.

I applied but did not get in. :(

All offseason there has been major concern about Gilbert, wasn't just last weekend.  I'd look for atleast two and probably three QB's to play against Rice.  I've heard that Ash has been as impresive as anyone down there., and he's the most athletic..don't know how much of the zone read will be ran this year..but there has been talk of him having a package designed for him.

This is not a bitch or a nut kick to RW. I know this is a story and god knows reading anything other than Cowboy pre-season crap is great. But................... I am sick and tired of this A&M, UT SEC shit. All weekend on every sports station this is all I heard. I don't have a dog in this hunt and could really give a shit if A&M moves or not. I know alot of people do. Come A&M shit or get off the pot already.

I think there are pretty big ramifications if the Big 12 splits and disperses, that's why we're hearing so much about it. I'm with you though, don't know why A&M warrants so much attention but has done so little(outside of women's basketball).

Has there ever been a school with a worse case of "little brother syndrome".

I mean, UT makes their dicks feel so short, they're willing to go to the SEC where Alabama, Auburn, LSU, et al will wipe the floor with them on a weekly basis?

Good luck with all that.

Mike Rapp

Has there ever been a school with a worse case of "big brother syndrome"? I just don't understand all these Texas fans getting upset by A&M feeling disrespected. A&M may not have the market presence of Texas, but for Texas to act as if the Big Whatever will be fine without them is laughable.

At some point, if Texas doesn't come off its high horse and (at least) start acting as if the other members of the conference matter, they'll get what they probably want anyway: complete independence. And if that is what they want, and what they are headed for, may I be so bold as to suggest what Nike has suggested for decades:

Just Do It.

And stop wasting everyone's time trying to prop up a conference that has become increasingly irrelevant due only to the fact that Texas wants to be treated as an independent while also remaining a member of a conference.

don't SECede

And would UT have to change the 2nd line of their fight song too?  And I bet, if A&M leaves, 2011 would be far from their "final meeting".  They still have to schedule non-conference...OU/UT played every year in different conferences in the past.  Although I do believe it wouldn't be an every year affair.

just thinkin'

Since Texas plays mostly Sam Houston State and the like in non conference, they'd want no part of A&M every year.

You're right, Ohio State is such a push-over program...

playing a top notch program every ten years does not a strong non conference schedule make

Well put, Hell this year Houston and Baylor might have something to say about it too.
