Being Pummeled by the Rangers, Angels Look Ready to Tap Out

It's August. But after watching the Rangers clobber the second-place Angels the last two nights it sure feels like October.

As in, the West is all but won. On to the playoffs already.

For the second consecutive night the Rangers' offense pounced on an overwhelmed Anaheim starter and staff. Monday night they built an 8-1 bulge and Tuesday looked similar with Texas leading 5-0 by the 3rd inning.

Michael Young had three of the Rangers' 17 hits and Josh Hamilton homered before leaving with back spasms that aren't considered serious. Even missing big stick Adrian Beltre, the Rangers have obliterated the Angels early in two four-run wins.

Last night's 7-3 win -- guided along by an impressive performance by Derek Holland -- improved the Rangers to a season-best 19 games over .500 at 71-52. The reeling Angels have lost four in a row.

A big reason Texas' magic number has dwindled to 34? The Angels weren't prepared for this series.

Manager Mike Scioscia had the chance to massage his pitching rotation so that the Angels threw Dan Haren and Jered Weaver in the first two games. Instead, Haren won't pitch and Anaheim starters Garrett Richards and Tyler Chatwood were boxed about the ears. The reward for Scioscia's stubborness? The Rangers have a season-high 6-game lead and have the Angels on the ropes.

I'm not saying the Angels didn't take the series seriously. But if it wasn't a crucial four games for both teams coming in, these last two are indeed now vital for one of the teams.

Right, Anaheim?

I'm not even gonna nutkick him, as long as he continues to stay away from all the Mav's posts.

This one will be over when the Angels are officially buried.  With a staff of Weaver, Santana, and Haren they can find a way to win pretty much every night.

The red shoes are building a nice lead over the Angels, but I'm not ready yet to say the West is won. Bigger leads have been lost. Just look at the Giants last year. They came out of nowhere to win the NL West.

If we do play October baseball this year though Whitt...save us the I'm such a huge fan bullshit you gave us last year. Thanks in advance.

Wowza, it's tight up in heara.  Most competive race in baseball right now.  Look out Mert, your squad is fishtailing all over the place..

Only a moron thinks the West is won with 8 more head-to-head games to go. Or someone wanting to get views.

No statements of victory from this Ranger follower until the magic number is single digits with double digit games to go.

I don't understand the strange logic by the earthling sports presenter exhibited in exchange for ducats in kind. It is of knowledge across the Oan Protectorate that the heavenlies have two fine throwing specimens of superior grade in Santana and Weaver pitching the last two quadrants in this vestibule of athletic struggle. Such a puzzling conclusion based upon a startling disconnect in cognizance.

sorry scruffy, gotta gagree with whitt here.  If this is what the angels are throwing out there, its over.  And this is without Beltre holmes.  Also scruff ifin you wanna rip said whitt for shitty weeks of posting, you should at least aknowledge the good week so far.

Scruffygeist

Only the Phillies can claim its over. This race isn't. If the Angels win the next two it's back to 4 with 6 head-to-head games left. That's over? Don't think so. I'm not going to write off the Halos yet--there's still alot of baseball to go, no banner can be unfurled when they're back in Arlington.

I gave him credit for yesterday's work yesterday. Today's is meh in my opinion and I disagree with that one statement.

I agree Scruff. The Rangers have a pretty tough row to hoe here on out. 7 with the Red Sox, 8 more with the Angles incluing the last three of the year. 6 more with the Rays and 6 more combined with the White Sox and the Indians.

ScottsMerkin

im not saying to unfurl banners, but im saying they look dead 6 games leads ae hard to come back from much less 7 or 8 that we COULD make it.  I dont think its being sensational to say its pretty much over.  I dont expect the Rangers to go on a 10 game losing streak, hell if they go .500 the rest of the way they'll win this division

once again mr. whitt shows his baseball ignorance.  scruffygeist is correct, it is not over.still 8 games left with laa, 5 at anaheim.  rangers have 7 with boston.  still a lot of baseball left.

Any "holy shits" last night from Beltre? I missed the game.

The Rangers are fun to watch because of their offense, but their pitching staff is still suspect and no lead is safe until you get to the 7th.

I love you, first place Texas Rangers.

The_Anus_is_on_you
The_Anus_is_on_you

How in the fuck can you say the pitching is suspect? They have 5 starters all in double digit wins and the top rated bullpen in baseball...Your a fucktard, tool, and bet your tongue constantly smells like doo doo!

TheRealDirtyP1

They're kicking bad teams asses. I've had Ranger pain before, it seems too good to be true and one injury or paternity leave to this rotation and it's even more suspect to me. They've also enjoyed tremendous run support.Look, I'm not scalding balls right now and I'm no Rangers expert like you guys are, I'm just telling you what my naked eye sees. Say something bad about the Rangers in here and you'll ass will get smacked. I have learned my lesson and will put my comments in my shinebox.

No Holy Shits last night. If'n you haven't been watching closely you may of missed this, the starting rotation hasn't/isn't an issue for this thing.  7th and 8th were, but alas we trusted in JD and he will once again lead us towards the promised land.I love the Rangers too.

I've been watching brotha. Harrison was having a hell of a game the other night before the wheels started wobbling. I thank Nolan Jesus and JD Christ for Yoshi and the last Samurai. Mike Adams is a beast, Neffy still makes me nervous. So very glad someone was willing to take him off my hands.
