2011 Dallas Cowboys Training Camp Day 14: My Top 10 Observer-ations

10.
Total attendance at camp will soar over 90,000 after this afternoon's final open-to-the-public practice. The Cowboys have issued 279 media credentials for camp and on Monday Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings attended practice. The Cowboys' contract with the City of San Antonio is up after camp but I see no reason they wouldn't return. The Cowboys get better weather in Oxnard, California and Alamodome-like accomodations in Arlington, but Jerry Jones cherishes owning the San Antonio market. Wouldn't be shocked if we're back to split-camps next year and beyond.

9. Tried San Antonio's famed Mi Tierra restaurant last night. Only a 20-minute wait, but horribly slow service and only so-so food. Disappointing. Mi Cocina still the best.

8. Linebacker Anthony Spencer's beard is approaching Brian Wilson's.

7. You can tell camp is winding down. Even Jason Garrett's "football" propensity is dwindling. During his daily Noon press conferences he's issued a high of 24 "football"s but yesterday only delivered nine.

6. To me the biggest bummer of camp was not getting to take a peak at third-round draft pick DeMarco Murray. He may be the team's best running back at some point, but he's got a lot of catching up to do.

5. Seems like I say this a lot, but at least once a day my eyes are drawn to an impressive play being made by undrafted free-agent linebacker Alex Albright.

4. Garrett yesterday compared defining a physical football team to defining porn, recalling Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart's iconic 1964 line: "I know it when I see it."

3. First player out at walkthrough this morning? Tyron Smith.

2. Monday's kicking stats: Dan Bailey 4-of-4 from 43, 27, 32 and 36. David Buehler 3-of-4 with makes from 26, 33 and 42 and a miss (left) from 37. At this point I don't trust either of them.

1. Abe Elam, welcome to camp. On a goal-line sequence yesterday he stopped Felix Jones at the 1 and then blanketed intended target Jason Witten in the end zone. Elam is wearing No. 24. Asked to name a former Cowboy who wore the number, he bypassed cornerbacks Everson Walls and Larry Brown and running back Marion Barber for ... "Omar Stoutmire." Not wrong. Just weird.

New Orleans Saints announced they will practice at Oxnard facilities next week. Does anyone know if the Cowboys will be there, too? Is it a combined scrimmage against each other or will the Cowboys not be there? Just wondering.

SFBL Breaking news sounderJ'sib has (somehow) managed (w 200 transactions atleast) to get within 6.5 points of the Mother Effing lead. Glad I got that out of system and I can return to RW writing/SJ commenting/TheFail broadcasting..but today I am almost the Ticket! POW!

10. I'm one of the rare people who actually like San Antonio.  I do hope they continue training camp there, it's not a bad little road trip.

9. Apparently I'm one of the few here who like Mi Tierra, too.  The best?  No. But not bad.

8. Who cares?

7. Only you and Greggo seem to have some sort of fixation about that.

6. To me the biggest bummer about camp was you ignoring everything else in the sporting world.  Look, 105.3 has an obligation to all Cowboys all the time.  The Observer has no such affiliation/obligation.  I also understand that you're probably trying to drive up Cowboys talk here in hopes of getting us to listen to 105.3 during the season.  If I know these readers as well as I think I do, they will not listen.  Please quit blurring the lines between the radio and paper.

5. Seems like we say this a lot: There are other kick ass things going on besides Cowboys.

4. Yesterday I took a dump. (In other words, kind of funny, but who cares)

3. First time you heard this? This blog is shameful.

2. I do not have mathematical abilities for the kicking of the nuts competition here.

1. I tried to give a shit, however I do not.

What the what?
What the what?

July radio numbers out.  6+ tells the same old story.  Remember when he was bragging about more listeners tuning in?  Not so much any more buddy....

Mi Cocina?  Good Mexican food?  In the long list of utterly stupid things you have written, this raises the bar a notch.

Fucktard.

#10 San Antonio is a big base for Cowboys fans, and they pay the Cowboys to go there. I'm sure the accomodations for the players and coaches are better than in Wichita or Oxnard. I'm sorry you and the rest of the media are put off that you don't get to take a trip out to California for two weeks :( :( :(   I don't really think anyone in DFW cares where the Cowboys practice.

#9 Mi Tierra sucks ass. Born and raised in San Antonio, that would be the last place I'd go for a mexican dinner, and it's overpriced. Don't let the oversized bakery with crappy tasting cookies mislead you.

#8 Wow, thanks! I was wondering how it was going! Who has a better one, Spencer or Epic Beard Man?

#7 He's beaten down by daily press conferences, not practices. I have to tell you that?

#6 Meh.

#5 Mayor of Meh.

#4 Um, didn't you already say this? I don't feel like going back and rereading the same posts over and over.

#3 Really? How is this #3 in importance?

#2 Since we're covering trust, I don't trust you to give me breaking news anymore. You're 0-????.

#1 Wow. Finally something worth it. Very nice since you could have written a topic detailing Elam's history and get me excited about the Cowboys making a free agent move.

anyone see the blondes vs. brunettes game?  Raised $250k? That's sports worthy.

How did we not raid the Mariners for more pitchers this year? Also, Endy Chavez, what say you?

Good quality nut kicking boys and girls, now let's lay off of RW for a little whi....BHAAAAA...couldn't say it with a straight face.

Methinks that RW was chastised, cause his "friends" don't seem to be around anymore..Sloppy posted this morning, but didn't seem his normal crack fueled (Greggo?) self.  Haven't seen the Mayor (RW) too much either..

Meh, their probably holed up in a LaQuinta (Espanol for Next to Denny's) in each other's arms..

Astute point about Ichiro, Richie. Good job! He's indeed having a terrible year by his standards, and combine that with being on a putrid offense and their one potential bright spot is dimmed. And great preview of tonight's matchup of two fireballing youngsters.

Mi Cocina is overrated and not worth a 5 minute wait, much less the hour the botox crowd is willing to stand at the bar drinking crappy margaritas for. If you're gonna go chain Tex Mex, at least be at Chuy's.

#8 O'day, O'day, O'day was rocking a pretty sweet homage to Brian Wilson last night.#9 1000 Mescun restaurants in SA, don't care.#6 Probably should wait until the rook gets his first carry, ever, with a star on his helmet..before annointing him.#4 was talked about on this here blog yesterday...shortly after it happened by me and Merk.#3 Smith sounds like a guy that brings his lunchpail.#2 Don't care about a kicker, shouldn't even know their name..if their worth a crap.

Big Bob W, in the comments of the best sporty article on this whole site, said to take up problems with Whitt with Joe Tone. Methinks he must be the boss, and hasn't stopped by the wreck of the Sportatorium in the past few weeks/months/years.

RW I know you think the Rangers should bench Holland but still dudes just 24. He's gonna have some growing pains. Thanks for the good strong opinion though.

9. Did you and your boyfriend go dutch? 6. what's Murrays problem? From your scouting eyes, is he slow, not executing cuts, or not grasping the playbook?5. Did Albright catch you staring at his junk?3. Who was the first coach on the field?

Hurry back RW, Addison misses its town douche.

TheRealDirtyP1

I agree RW. If this pitching staff can get them to the 6th inning with a lead, it's over. A combination of shut down middle relievers, set ups, and closers, and add late inning hitting and scoring(a solor HR here or there) and this thing is going to be alright. Still only a one game lead, but how long can the halo's keep this up?

ogando on the mound tonight after paternity leave.   still waiting for the interviews and the story on the paternity leaves for baseball players.again, in case you missed it, its an mlb rule, before teams did not have the option to bring a player up to fill in when they allowed a player to leave for this purpose.it is baseball season and your local team is in a race again, the type of thing you have bitched about not having for years.  you have it and its obvious you don't understand the great game.   attendance at training camp, who cares?  only the jones family.

I agree with all your points about last nights Rangers game. Napoli is pounding the ball harder than Armen pounds your ass. Michael Young continues to be consistent just like the consistent suckiness of this blog.

Tone is way left of center and couldn't give a rat about sports other than stadium funds conflicting with his redistribute the wealth agenda. As long as RW throws in his George Bush snipes on a regular basis you are not going to see anything meaningful result by barking up this tree.

You're quite wrong, RC. Huge sports fan. And I'd be interested in how you think arguing against wasting money on a sports stadium makes me left of center?
