Rangers' Offense Gone, But Shannon Stone Not Forgotten

So the Rangers exploded for 12 runs Friday night thanks to Nelson Cruz' eight RBI. On Saturday they authored a dramatic 9th-innning comeback, powered by three consecutive bunts and a walk-off hit by Michael Young.

So surely Sunday night would provide some thrills. Some entertainment. Some drama. At least some runs?

Nope. A game that started in record 105-degree heat ended with Texas wilting, being shut out for the second time in four games. Blanked by Jered Weaver is one thing.

But by Brett Cecil? Against Toronto's lefty Texas managed just four singles and failed to push a runner past second base.

It was an ugly ending to a weekend in which the Rangers also lost All-Star third baseman Adrian Beltre to a hamstring injury.

But there is good news concerning a very bad event.

At last night's game noted Rangers' fan Jamey Newberg's annual outing raised $15,000 for the memorial fund of Shannon Stone, the Brownwood firefighter who tragically fell to his death while leaning over the outfield railing to catch a baseball tossed by Josh Hamilton on July 7. That, on the heels of Dallas' Only Daily beat writer Evan Grant raising $2,000 among his fans.

And last Friday night we did our best at 105.3 The Fan, raising almost $6,000 at our first annual softball charity game. My team -- the Olds -- wasn't victorious, but when you're able to put a smile on the faces of Stone's parents and raise a decent chunk of change it's easy to deem it a successful night.

I gave up 5 earned in 4 at home today for my 7th loss. Heath Bell on the other side earned his 29th save. You Rangers still want me for 9 figures? No? Go figure.

It's poorly written, misuse of an apostrophe, combative, douchey, passive-aggressive...

Richie?

What did I do for the Stone's?

I nut kicked the shit out of Richie for posting a link to the video of Shannon falling to his death that was posted for nothing more than page hits. Richie had the audacity to do this after Shannon's wife and family specifically asked the media to quit showing it. What did you do?

Glad to see a mention of Newburg's charitable effort.  15g from a blogger, basically, and the great Evan Great rakes in 2 grand.  So the Fail, with it's 100000 watts and home of the Cowboy status, contributes 6 thou.  I'd figure that corporate would have matched the total or made sure it was a nice round # (10,530 ? maybe)  Guess y'all are worried about gas money for your Fail party barge...or getting the crew down to SA next week. Atleast y'all don't have to worry about heading to Thousand Oaks this summer. Keep effing that chicken RW!

Why do you always call it Dallas' Only Daily? We get that it is, but just call it the Morning News like everyone else. Tool.

Good job FAN.Question, if Josh decided to do a fundraiser, don't you think, sympathy alone that he'd outgross anything anyone could come up with? Just a thought.

"Our first annual softball charity game."  Lol. You mean the first and LAST softball charity game. What's next Fanstock? Fan fight night? Summer Bash? Schlitz Reserve camp-outs? Spare's night-out roundtables? What other things do you hacks plan on copying from the Ticket?

Funny how you focus on the one game of the series the Ranger lost. Wow just $6000 huh? Well I guess you did what you could hats off for the effort. At least you didn't play the video of the mans fall like when you linked it on this very blog. Remeber that? Really when you think about it $6000 divided by all of your 17 listeners thats a big chunk apiece.

I'm all for giving ol RW a good kick in the nuts when called for (and it usually is) but really $6K is a pretty good lick wouldn't you say. Besides I'm guessing its more than you raised for the cause.Just sayin...

Your right it is more than I raised. I did donate but not $6k. Then again I'm not a Radio host (all be a sorry one) and a "journalist". Let me ask you this there "slick" do you think the little ass hole aplogized to the Stone family for post the link of Mr. Stones fall after the family requested via Nolan Ryan it not to be? I would love to hear RW's explantion but he's too much of a pussy to comment here anymore.

Richie does deserve it. When he was on with Josh and Elf on Friday he was boasting about having a huge check(unless he meant an actual giant check) to give to Shannon's parents and that his team was going to destroy the other team. It's great that they raised what they did but I'm glad he lost, it couldn't have happened to a douchier person.
