Whitt's End - reaper.jpg
Whether you've reached the end of your rope or merely the end of your week, welcome to Whitt's End:

*In 31 years of basketball, the Dallas Mavericks have won a combined (regular season and playoffs) 1,349 games. One more in Miami either Sunday or Tuesday and they are NBA Champions.

*History suggests the Mavs need to win Game 6. The last team to win an NBA Finals Game 7 on the road was Dick Motta's Washington Bullets, over the Seattle Supersonics way back in 1978.

*If this year feels like last year, that's because it's eerily similar. In the 2010 Finals the Boston Celtics lost Game 1 to the Lakers in L.A., then won Game 2 to even the series. At home with three games, the Celtics lost Game 3 but then won 4 and 5 to take a 3-2 lead heading back to the west coast. But Boston, with two games to win one, lost Game 6 by 22 points and fell in an ugly Game 7, 83-79. Here's hoping the Mavs scrap that script.

*With a 3-2 lead and in Dallas before Game 6 in 2006, then-Heat coach Pat Riley famously boasted: "I packed one suit, one shirt and one tie." Wonder if the Mavs are confidently packing light?

*Fitting that Jason Terry sealed Game 5 with a 3-pointer -- the biggest jumper in franchise history -- from the right wing at the Miami end of the court. Very near the same spot he front-rimmed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer of Game 6 of the 2006 Finals. I'll say it again: Terry has to be good for the Mavs to be great. And boy was he ever Thursday night. Not just the crunch-time jumpers, but also blowing by LeBron James off the dribble before penetrating into the lane and kicking out to Jason Kidd for a wide-open 3-pointer and a 105-100 lead.

*Bad news: The Mavs' 2011 plans have fallen apart. Caron Butler left early. Roddy Beaubois never arrived. Brendan Haywood left late. The replacements for Butler -- Peja Stojakovic and Corey Brewer -- are absolute non-factors. Remind me again how the Mavs are on the verge of pulling this off.

*Hot.

*Not.

*Very Mavs-ish today, but on the Cowboys' front, how about a juicy name for if and when the NFL gets unlocked. Stud safety is working out daily at the Michael Johnson Performance Center in McKinney these days, telling anyone who'll listen that he'll be a Cowboy in 2011. That player? Oakland Raiders' free-agent safety Michael Huff. I'm down with that. Big time.

*Speaking of the Cowboys, Miles Austin was at Mavs-Heat Game 5. And Dez Bryant's advisor -- David Wells -- was lunching at Hooters in the West End Thursday afternoon. Sans the receiver.

*Still baffled by LeGone James. In "the most important game of my life," he produces a triple-double but only two points in the fourth quarter. For the series in the fourth quarter he's scored 5, 2, 2, 0 and 2 points. He's now been outscored in the fourth by Dirk, 52-11.

*You can potentially excuse James' minimal impact on personal problems, perhaps a scallywag girlfriend. But I remember a dude playing through major almost-fiancee problems in 2009. Goes by the name of Dirk Nowitzki. And during his crisis he averaged 34 points and 11 rebounds.

*The Mavs made 13 3-pointers in a Finals game and not a one of them by Peja Stojakovic. This team never ceases to amaze.

*As for the Rangers, Endy Chavez looks like a late-blooming keeper in center and in AA Frisco, top prospect Leonys Martin has smacked three homers and is hitting above .350. In other words, Julio Borbon better get his shit together. Quick.

*Let me take this opportunity to publicly apologize to J.J. Barea. Once upon a time I doubted him. Called him a novelty act. Said that no team with a realistic chance of winning an NBA title would ever give him quality minutes. Wrote that he was the reverse-identical version of Shawn Bradley. On all fronts I was dead wrong. Barea dominated the Lakers series and changed Game 5 of The Finals with his penetration and four 3-pointers.

Dave Barnett and Tom Grieve are doing a great job on the broadcasts. The Rangers are 6th in the American League in ERA, which is often an indicator or how good their pitching is but interesting enough it's good for last in their division

I love ya Richie, but this blog is dead to me until I see legit details on Gina Miller's boob job here. I know you have the inside scoop, hook us up!

Besieged to your left. Much or contaminant floor be. Richie Whitt make of praise the Dallas Mavericks. Great paste for the Mavericks. Paste out! The Miami Heat in mental anguish preponderance of tangential affairs. Be dime of earth for enquire Mavericks winner.

Historically, team that have trailed at least 5 times entering the 4th period and in Game 5 lead at a home game in the series, have gone on to win the championship 100% of the time. This is true in Basketball, Hockey and ping-pong. Call it now! Plan the para.....whoops!

Everytime DeFlop wade goes flying like a bomb went off in his ass I get more enraged.  They are making a mockery of what once was a beautiful sport.  They should be ashamed of the way the treat the game.

I didn't think it was possible for me to dislike the Heat more than I already did. They figured out a way to be even more obnoxious. Kudos, now I can root for your failure without even a twinge of conscience.

I hope Rashard Lewis didn't get any diseases from LeBron's baby mama. He's split me open a few times and I don't want any hivvy dropped into my gaping booty.

Off to Harry Hines to make that money!

I too am tired of hearing the stats on what the outcome of the series is going to be based on who wins certain games. The Heat won game 3 so history shows that they are going to win 100% of the time, but the Mavs won game 5 so history shows that they will win about 70% of the time? What the what?! Just let the series play itself out.

This just in...Magic Johnson is horrible on ESPN. I hope they win the Shaq war and replace him with Magic. They desperately need him.

Was reading Greggo tweets last night, and he is STILL gold. I was cracking up...actually thinking about joining.

I know Michael Huff is a step up to what we have currently, but a stud safety? Maybe in college, but I wouldn't go that far now.

Would love to see Deron Williams in a Mavs uni in a couple of years. And speaking of NBA players from Dallas...I f-ing hate Bosh. Heard a couple of nights ago that he wasn't a Mavs fan when he lived here, b/c they sucked. So you can only be a fan of the local team if they are good apparently. Piece of shit. He doesn't come across as being proud of being from here at all. Maybe I'm a little sensitive of DFW.

Rangers looking pretty good and the rest of the West is not. Looking forward to baseball getting my full attention! Let's wrap the NBA up on Sunday Night!

The Jet flew high yesterday. If he can walk the walk than he can talk the talk. Fine by me. Does little J.J have the finest women on the team? I actually doubt it. I saw Tyson Chandler with a curvy Latina with hips from here to Jamaica. I don't know if it was his girlfriend or friend or who knows.... but she was (in my eyes) finer than J.J's Miss Universe. Anyways, Dirk. As always, Nuff said'. Tyson Chandler. Beautiful. Kidd. Beautiful. Everyone else. Good, could've been better. Concentrate. Stay humble. Stay focused. Getttt thisss!

Great Whitt's End, RW.  Don't confuse curiosity for "profiling." It's called human nature. Believe me, if you'd have been representing US media at a soccer match in Jordan, you'd have been looked at in an up and down fashion as well.

RW, I'll give you a sports hug, little buddy. I'll even let you cry your little sports tears on my shoulder...well I doubt your tall enough to reach my shoulder but you know what I mean. Let's all call a truce until the Finals are over. #MFFL Mother Effer!

I want this series to end because I'm getting tired head from hearing stuff like "The winner of game 4 has gone on to win the series 45.34% of the time" or "history suggests the winner of...". Such an ass whip. Not nut kicking ya, RW. As it is, I'm about ready for a Mavs hug with ya.

I learned yesterday not to get on Miami Heat message boards and start talking shit. Obviously, I got treated the way RW gets treated here. I thought it was funny how they got so mad.

Welp, time to go to Chipotle for some lunch. Also going to plot against Rooster, ya know, since I'm 100% eaten up with him because he slept with my mom/girlfriend/wife or whatever it is. Just makes me so butt hurt! After Chipotle, I guess I'll give my laptop back to dad and go back to school.

RW are you still around?  Let us know how your face to face goes with Colby and Kins, if in fact you have the nads to go stand on your little person stool and ask them about the paternity leave they've taken.  I tell you what, I'd pay good money to hear you ask them jack shit about it. You won't little man, big talk = little man

Go Mavs!  Big time effort for the Jet last night.  Reminded me of way back Jet in Hotlanta..dribbling around all crazy and hitting off balance-late in the shot clock threes.  This just in: Dirk is good, Redshoes is good, RW and the Fail still sucks. Keep effing that chicken RW!

History - screw history.  Mavs in 7.

Cowboys - meh.  Somebody wake me when the millionaires are done squabbling with the billionaires.  Until then, I have them on tune-out.

Martin - won't be in Frisco long.  He's a man among boys.

Barea - if you were boning Miss Universe, you'd be motivated, also.

Cuban - if they win it, I hope he sends a picture of the trophy to Ross Perot, Jr.....not that Perot would have the slightest idea what the trophy looks like or anything like that.

IRL - meh.

Flipped by the show last night. Don't get excited, it was an accident, pressed the button on the wheel once too many times trying to get to Galloway during an HL break, but feel free to exaggerate the cume. Heard you trying to milk the Kinsler thing. Laughed. Also heard you exaggerating you getting ripped for it on this here bloggie. Laughed more. There were like 8 of us commenting, and most weren't related at all to your dumbass opinion. Mine was, because it was indeed dumbass. Glad to see you exaggerate numbers all over the place. I then proceeded to listen to Ticket commercials.

Heat melt down Sunday, Mavs win easily. Sports tears.

I hope shaq doesnt get on ESPN, they would marginalize anything good he could do.  He belongs on TNT or NBAtv.  Read some of the excerpts from the new ESPN book and if you didnt think ESPN was full of douchy to good to talk to you guys, well you will after

Really?
Really?

So you can honestly say you rooted for the Mavs in the 90s when they were winning 15 games a year?

"I'm getting tired head from hearing stuff like "The winner of game 4 has gone on to win the series 45.34% of the time" or "history suggests the winner of...:"

God, me too. None of those stats mean jack shit. Every single one of those games were played in the past. Certainly there are odds for winning the game or the series, but those odds are not at all related to whats happened before.

If I flip a coin a bunch of times it would be silly, would it not, to claim that "after a run of 3 heads in a row, tails came up 6 times out of 7"? So what? Has nothing to do with future performance.

TheRealDirtyP1

What are the odds on this interview happening?

I can almost feel Colbra's apathy, after being MIA from SFBL during my paternity leave and learning of a coup against the Bloody Tacos to remove them from said league. Makes me laugh, but also makes me realize that people that have never had kids will never understand what's more important. I'd trade my salary this year to see my baby born again, that's a better feeling than your team winning a championship, and I should know, I have four kids and four championships. Stay hard JSIB.

You can couch it however makes you feel better and you can camouflage it with personal and professional attacks, but, again, I'm just glad you consistently "hate" me both on radio and on blog on a daily basis. My goal is - at this special time - to all put down our swords for a second and act as like-minded Mavs fans. When this series is over there'll be plent of time for a healthy exchange of venom. Until then, group Mavs hug?

http://www.dmagazine.com/Night...Compare that pic to what you see each night. That pic has almost no boobies. Now Gina looks like a solid C-Cup...seemed to appear around beginning of baseball season. I figure she works for CBS, you would know :)I'm not hating on her, think she looks fantastic, it was just surprising.

I agree that ESPN wouldn't use Shaq like they should, but I kind of think Shaq and Chuck together might be too much? Not real sure how that would work out. All I know is that ESPN needs to change something.

I read the excerpts of the ESPN book that Deadspin released. Good stuff. I wouldn't mind Chris Berman kicking the bucket at anytime. Is there a bigger ass in the media? He even has Richie beat.

Yeah man, I did. Was even a ball boy a couple of times. I root for the Rangers, Cowboys, and Mavs regardless of their records. Do I get frustrated at them at times, you betcha. But not root for them? Never.

Josh's broken records

Raises my hand.  I have watched miserable Mav's ball since I moved to the big city in 88.  We were good at the time, then the Fat Lever trade.  I watched every dang game the year we won 12 or so..I watched as we picked Jackson, then Jamal, then Jason..I watched when we traded all of them away and picked up Finley and Bradley and Pack..I watched "the best running big man in the NBA" Antstey...I then watched us trade Tractor Trailer and pass on Pierce for some skinny kid from Germany..and pick up Phoenix's 3rd team PG..I've been here for dang near this entire ride, and WIN #4 is all I want for Sporty Christmas.

Don't worry about that
Don't worry about that

So much for you not caring about the coup to get rid of you. You sure sound like you care to me. Also, you didn't bother showing up to the draft anyway so its not like you ever really cared about the league before your little one was born anyway. I remember you saying that you would eventually forget you had a team anyway. Bitch.

Oh and change your fucking avatar. It doesn't really hold water anymore.

Not a bit, I'm sad to say. I'm taking this seriously.

Sabathia got lit up, and my guys went 5/29 or some garbage. I'm extremely close to dumping some batters who have just plain sucked, already dumped McGehee. I'd ask if anyone wants Uggla, but I couldn't in good conscious do that to any of you.

RW was blogging really hard about doing a sitdown with them after the Finals have concluded...Hey who knows, it appears that Hell is about to freeze over...and the Midget stole my original pick (mavs in 6, so i changed it to mavs in 7)

Three and three over hear brother...I hear ya.  Sorry about the little coup attempt/Bay of Pigs redeux, you went radio darkness and we were worried.  Congrats again on your new addition sir.

Scruff isn't doing a bit, and he won't trade with me if'n the only other choice were to listen to best of RAGE on a loop for eternity.  I offered him the same trade you took, and he laughed me off and said he wasn't about swap meets or somesuch.

Blog, yes, everyday. I like the community. Show? Not every day. Nowhere close. I was cool with things until you acted like an ass to a couple regulars on here a few days ago, which was, in my opinion, douchey and out of line. So, like Jason Terry, I dialed in. But group hug accepted, I think we can all unite in a burning desire for the Mavs to bring the trophy home.

Born and raised in SA. Moved to Dallas in 2000 for work. Went to my first Spurs game against the Suns in 7th grade in Hemisfair Arena. Reunion made that place look like a crackhouse. The cool thing about latching on to a team as a kid, you don't really know how bad they suck, you look up to the players and enjoy the game. It's when you're an adult that it's more painful. I'm glad I was a kid when we were horrible. Thanks for the concern.

TheRealDirtyP1
TheRealDirtyP1

I made more moves in the first two weeks than everyone but JBS. I don't know what you consider constituting of not doing anything with my team, in that case TKR would be out. I don't see a problem if something isn't broke to try and fix it. I passed up numerous trades, and looking back I probably didn't evaluate them well. My pitching has been shitty all year, that's my one bugaboo. In regards to my avatar, I said I'll change it when the Mavs win. I'm not saying they're not going to win because I believe they are, but I'm also not on the victory parade planning committee and don't wish to give the Mavs any bad mojo. I'm a Spurs fan first, can't stand the Heat, and it's hard to cheer against a team that I have so many friends that are fans of.

If the series ended in a tie because of tentruple overtime in Game 7, well that wouldn't bother me either.

Stay hard and bitter anonymous.
