Texas Rangers and Josh Hamilton Are Fighting the Summer Blues

Josh Hamilton - Day Trouble.jpg
Alexi Ogando has suddenly produced three consecutive outings of five innings or less. Fourth outfielder David Murphy just went 1 of 9 to drop his average to .233. And the Rangers have lost 12 of their last 19 -- including 3-3 on a homestand against the Astros and Mets -- in clinging to a lead in the sorry ass mediocre AL West with a record of 41-38.

Last year the Rangers won the division with a hot, 21-6 June highlighted by an 11-game winning streak. This year -- with a day off before a three-game series in Houston -- they are only 12-12 in June. The frustration is starting to show.

Especially in the eyes of star Josh Hamilton.

After ridiculously blaming his poor production in day games on the color of his eyes, Hamilton tried tinted contacts Saturday and promptly went 0 of 4 with four strikeouts. He took the contacts out after the third strikeout, but it didn't matter.

He's hitting .122 in day games, .377 at night.

They've been playing baseball in this country since the Civil War and Hamilton is the first player to complain about the supposed handicap of having blue eyes. He hit a decent .286 in day games last year. Just sounds like a load of you-know-what.

I hear Hamilton fans and irrational Rangers fans somehow backing their player, pointing to medical studies and doctors and this and that. Cal Ripken, your thoughts?

Coulda sworn the bluest eyes in the history of baseball got 3,000 hits and a place in baseball's Hall of Fame. As a guy with blue eyes, I can tell you that it's difficult to see in the sun, but nothing sunglasses or the experience of living with them for 40-something years can't fix.

The excuse is just weak. The problem isn't in Hamilton's eyes, it's in his head. Tennis legend Bjorn Borg never won a U.S. Open and he blamed it on his difficulty seeing the ball at night in New York. Some people just plain have better vision than others, but ...

"I'd be batting .600 if I could figure out how to hit in day games," Hamilton said. "It's frustrating for me knowing obviously I could help my team in a big way. I'm there with runners in scoring position and stuff like that and I'm up there looking lost trying to swing the bat. I'll figure it out."

After Saturday's dismal showing, manager Ron Washington sat Hamilton in Sunday afternoon's 8-5 loss.

"His numbers prove he doesn't hit in the day, but I can tell you he's not going to have all day games off," Washington said. "Anything further than that you've got to get out of Hamilton's mouth."

There is good news: The Rangers don't have another day game until July 10, the last game before the All-Star break.

Here's thanking TV for moving World Series games to night.

Don't you think that the "I am second" man's act is getting old on Wash? The comments made by both yesterday speak volumes. How much longer can you count on a individual who has no self-control ($20 in wallet, the alcohol/drugs, the tats, the ignoring of the 3rd base coach to break his arm)?

I would fuck Josh so hard. I bet he's got a hard huge cock. I would let him cum anywhere he wanted. My pussy is wet just thinking about it.

Was watching Baseball Tonight over the weekend and they talked to Buster Olney (I think) about this. He talked about a conversation with Buck Showalter that he had regarding the kinds of kids he looks at. One thing Buck tends to stay away from are kids with blue eyes because they can't pick things up as good during the day light.

But what do those guys know? RW has blue eyes and can see perfectly, so Hamilton is just bullshitting, right?

Actually, Boykin Liefmillier of the Spokane Rutabagas way back in 18 and 87 once complained of blue eyed swamp gout of the third left ventricle.

I'm beginning to think Richie tries to tie a story to himself more than he says Greggo.

Could his eyes have alot to do with it? Sure. I can't see worth a crap without sunglasses and my eyes are brown. I'm too light sensitive. But all he has to do is call Oakley (or dig through the selection I'm sure they've already sent the team), and find a lens that will work. The rest of it is probably in his head.

Maybe Mickey Mantle would have had 800 home runs and a .350 BA if his eyes were brown. All that beer drinking must of  off set the glare of the sun when he was hitting.

I don't know what's up with Jham..it's a pisser. But that doesn't let the rest of the team off..WTF is going on with the defense? Baseball is a very long season, so I'm not A's worried with Ogando and Dutchoven..I'll gladly take O's first half. If we see alot more of the good Colby, we'll have enough to win the division. But JD is gonna have to work some magic for us to do anything other than that. O'Day should help out the pen later this week. Guess Elvis didn't get the head first slide memo, Boomstick doesn't know home many balls constitutes a walk and Kins is happy almost getting me 6 rbi's yesterday.

RW have you ever hit a 98mph fastball in the day time with your blue eyes???? I'm not saying that what's wrong with Jham is not in his head, but don't go off saying since you have blue eyes and you see in the day time everyone else can too.

I think what Hamilton means to say is that his blue BALLS are keeping him from hitting during the day. Anyhoo, this team is looking bad. Ogando and Holland are suckin. The defense is atrocious (most errors in the league). We have no catcher. The bullpen is a joke. Ian Kinsler is still batting an abyssmal .235 with the backup shortstop batting a buck 88. And we have a white version of Stevie Wonder batting during day games.Get busy John Daniels.

I was hoping you'd have the quote on how he kinda sorta dissed Washington about him changing his mind a lot lately. Josh is quick to throw a coach under a bus.edit: here it is "Of course, I wasn't counting on it. You never know. The skip changes his mind quite a bit. I feel good, could have used a day off, piggybacked with a another off day [on Monday], I think it will be good for me."

Are you serious? What a fucking joke. Though it's on another station, I want to see RW go up against Colby or Hamilton at Fight Night. That fucking balding midget would shit himself.

Keep trying RW, you'll eventually say something ignorant enough to get the national media talking about you again.

Don't worry, only about 4 people other than you heard.

I'm in an office all day, when I go out for lunch or go home at 5, there's no way I could hit a 98 mph fast ball, at least in the first hour. Doesn't stop me from hitting a softball though for those dreaded 630 games.

RW wouldve had that, but alas he's grown out of listening to 1310. I heard the same quote this morn while gently musing.

I like the guy, it just seems that he doesn't take responsibility for bad play. He's a badass, that's just the way baseball go right? To be a great hitter, you're going to fail 2 out of 3 times. Most of our guys are failin 3 or 4 out of 5 times.
