The Rangers Aren't Winning, and Now C.J. Wilson is ... Whining?

Categories: Texas Rangers
Rangers-A's.jpg
Hello, win column! third place.

The Rangers started 9-1. But since Josh Hamilton broke his arm on that daring/dumb dash for home plate in Detroit on April 12, they're 9-17.

That equals 18-18. That equals -- for the first time since April 30, 2010 -- third place in the AL West behind the Angels and the A's, who whipped Texas 7-2 last night in Arlington.

The Rangers, who have lost seven of nine, aren't hitting. Their bullpen cratered again, with Ryan Tucker failing to retire any of the four batters he faced. And now, the frustration is starting to show.

Ace C.J. Wilson was good last night, but an illogically tiny strike zone cost him. In the 3rd he walked both Daric Barton and Conor Jackson on two-out, 3-2 counts, then surrendered a three-run homer to Josh Willingham.

Wilson allowed only one more hit despite pitching into the 8th. The A's are a patient bunch. But Wilson sees them a tad differently, almost -- almost, I said -- calling them out as so many 'fraidy cats.

"They take everything close. If it's not called a strike, then they walk. It's lawyer ball. That's how they roll. That's how they're going to beat me. That's how they have to beat me. I have to make a bunch of mistakes and walk a bunch of guys because they're not that good of a hitting team. The whole game was frustrating.''

Don't even think that's a back-handed compliment, is it?

While Tommy Hunter's rehab from a groin injury suffered another setback on Monday, pitcher Scott Feldman and MVP Hamilton are closer to playing again. Hamilton could take batting practice with the team on Friday.

When you lose your best pitcher (Neftali Feliz) and best hitter (Hamilton) to the DL it's going to have a negative effect. But is the 9-17 slump merely a product of injuries, or do the Rangers have bigger, more enduring problems that even Hamilton can't fix?

CJ wouldn't want to pitch in my E softball league. I've never seen so many softball players take walks. It's 2011, we don't need umps, if you trust the ball trackers that every broadcast has, you can put the balls and stikes on a board. He does sound like a crybaby though.

I understand his frustration because CJ's right. I love my A's but it's common knowledge they can't hit. However, they found a way to beat C.J. It wasn't pretty but it was legit.

It will all be ok folks, no worries yet sirs. Jham will be back in no time, and then this thing will hit the cover off the ball again. The bullpen is alot more concerting, I expect Ogando to be moved back to the 8th, when Feldman/Biggame or Webb is ready. I'd love to see Ogando get 30 starts, but once we start hitting ...maybe...the back of the bullpen is more important.

And if all that goes to Hell, fleece somebody for CJ and maybe look at sending Josh along for the right price ..probably wait til next year's trade deadline for Jham though..to give this thing another chance next year. CJ is gone after this season concludes, so if we're out of it..send him down the line. He's always wanted to hit, and guaranteed he signs with a Natl league team next year anyway.

CJ got aqueezed, the ump was terrible but thats his strike zone. And CJ is right, the A's dont swing at anything, if its not down the middle 88 mph, the dont hit

The lineup is dire need of even the threat of Josh's bat and the bullpen is spread so thin that they had to bring Lowe back already.

There may be more problems than just those two issues, but those two issues are easily problem enough to tank a team with such a miserable stretch.

I'd be pissed to with this "bag ' shit". First, you trade his mentor, Clee, then you sign marginal players (Naps, Beltre) and piss Mike Young off.......he wants out. Heck just trade him to the Mets, Redsox, Yanks, Dodgers-now. He wants to win, and this "turd" ain't winning anytime soon.

Kerger Inn.

If I know RW, and I don't, he thanks you for listening.

I have Marcum, Tim Hudson and Josh Tomlin throwing tonight. This will be Tomlin's first start for me. My bats are starting to come alive which is good since I need to get my average and RBI up. I'm in the middle of the pack in both of those stats.

I'm always open to trades aslongas you aren't just throwing shit at the wall and hopping it sticks.

You're probably selling low on Posey, he's off to a crap start like 75% of my roster. A certain someone kept thinking he could get Crawford for Sam Fuld.

I think its more of the Rangers beating themselves, its been happening for a while now. They could have rallied back but the can't hit and the bullpen just sucks.

Fleece someone for Kinsler and keep Hambone. Alot of this team's problems come from a leadoff hitter who's intent on being the next Brady Anderson.

Might be two other issues when you are leading the majors in errors and home runs surrendered.

I'm not just going to give him away. VMart is finally hitting and I'm splitting Smoak and Sanchez at 1st. They're all hitting. Posey was the odd man out, no problem keeping him if I don't see something I like.

I would, but my company put in Barracuda today and I'm getting dinged left and right on sites I can access. I'm sure there will be a meeting coming up discussing the sites I go to, nothing NSFW, until RW puts up hots or nots and doesn't actually look at the site he's copying the pic from.

I said in the off season, moving Kins for a T.O.R. starter was the move for this thing to make. Or get Clee's wifey a freaking car with AC, methinks her effing horse and buggy with Arkansas plates was atleast partially to blame for him not re-signing.

Scruffygeist
Scruffygeist

I was ready and willing to give Kinsler to KC for Greinke (among other prospects), but the Rangers didn't call me for my GM opinions. The bastards. I think Kinsler's liabilities, of which he has quite a few, are still pretty under-the-radar to the rest of the league and he really is fleecing-worthy.
