Texas A&M Quarterback Jerrod Johnson Falls From Heisman to Hartford

One thing I will do is admit when I'm wrong. And Aggies fans, I was wrong about this one and y'all were right.

Texas A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson was indeed good enough to be a first-round draft pick.

In the United Football League.

The Hartford Colonials last night made Johnson the first overall draft pick in the UFL, a five-team league set to start its third season playing on Sundays in August. The other first-round picks: Florida cornerback Reynaldo Hill, Fresno State quarterback Ryan Colburn, Utah defensive end Martail Burnett and Furman offensive tackle Joel Bell.

At the beginning of the 2010 college football season I scoffed at Johnson being on some writers' Heisman Trophy watch lists and even at him being named the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Year. I think I said at the time that if he maxed out he'd be Minnesota Vikings' quarterback Tarvaris Jackson.

Wrong again.

After a senior season in which he was benched in favor of former receiver Ryan Tannehill, Johnson now finds himself in Connecticut playing for former Atlanta Falcons coach Jerry Glanville. Quite a plunge.

Johnson, 6-5 and 240 pounds, both holds the Big 12 Conference record of 242 consecutive passes without an interception set in 2009 and last season threw nine picks in the Ags' first five games.

Nothing personal against A&M's all-time leading passer. I hear he's a great kid. Just thought he was way overrated, that's all. And now, apparently 32 NFL teams agree.

Sorry, Richie, this is a BS post. I notice that you didn't make a single mention of the fact that Johnson was hampered his entire senior season with a hurt shoulder. He had offseason surgery, but it clearly didn't properly heal. Anyone who noticed his throwing motion in 2010 compared to 2010 could see that. That was devastating to him in his senior season. THAT'S why he was benched. If you're going to write something, at least have the decency to put all the facts out there.
At least their lack of a clue is consistent across basketball and football too.

Non cowboy fan here, but average quarterbacks dont put up the numbers he does. Id gladly have him over Matt Cassell anyday and Im sure about 22 other teams would take him over the shit they throw out there. And who cares if he a leader or not, as long as he plays and does his job, whats it matter what he does on the side. You are correct. I guess I should have said the station as a whole. I actually like Josh and Elf, they are growing on me. Arnie probably has the best ratings now that Newy is gone. Gavin doesn't stand a chance with his awful lead in ratings. The sad thing is that RAGE could be successful if they moved back to middays and stick with a three hour show and tone down Richie's douchiness.

I think Josh and Elf know something about being successful. Greggo has experienced success too...before he snorted it all away. Also, I heard Arnie say one night that his show gets the best ratings on the station.
Is he now signed with Connecticut? Are all un-drafteds doomed to the UFL? Are NFL scouts calling agents and 'hypothetically' expressing interest in undrafted free agents since they are forbidden to do so officially? Will Johnson get interest from an NFL staff?

Newy is off somewhere being successful, something that no one employeed by the Fan would know about or experience. I still can't believe they trashed their highest rated show, thats like Fox cancelling American Idol and airing reruns of MASH or Lucy.

I don't think you can claim "I told you so" based on a guy's poor surgery recovery. His preseason rating was appropriate based on his '09 results (he was one of the best in the Big 12 that year).
