My Top 21 Texas Rangers in the History of Ever

Categories: Texas Rangers
Rangers - Logo.gif
C.J. Wilson was superb in last night's much-needed win over Seattle. Pedro Strop is gone. Mark Lowe is back (uh-oh). Tommy Hunter and Nefali Feliz are getting close. And dazzling Cuban defector Leonys Martin is fast-tracking our way.

In the middle of a very transitory Rangers season I was asked by a certain TV station to list my all-time best players from 21 -- get it? -- to 1.

And away we go ...

21.
Alex Rodriguez -- If he wasn't a 'roided-up asshole he'd be much higher

20.
Cliff Lee -- Pitched Rangers to Game 5 win in Tampa for first playoff series

19.
Jeff Burroughs -- '74 AL MVP

18.
Julio Franco -- '91 batting champ with .341 average

17.
Frank Howard -- Hit first homer at Arlington Stadium, then 245 as Ranger

16.
Will Clark -- Grinding first baseman on Texas' first two division champs

15.
Buddy Bell -- Best defensive infielder in history of franchise

14. Rusty Greer -- Did he ever catch a fly ball without diving?

13. Nolan Ryan -- Seventh no-hitter and 5,000th strikeout be damned, 51 wins rank only 11th

12. Fergie Jenkins -- 90 complete games, 17 shutouts and 25 wins in '74

11. John Wetteland -- All-time saves leader

10. Toby Harrah -- Original shorstop is sixth all-time in games played; second in stolen bases

9. Kenny Rogers -- Best lefty pitcher, by a mile

8. Jim Sundberg -- Third in games played, six consecutive Gold Gloves at catcher

7. Ruben Sierra -- Second in triples and one of the best OF arms in team history

6. Charlie Hough -- Chain-smoking knuckleballer holds every important pitching record

5. Rafael Palmeiro -- Steroids or not, he's third in hits and second in franchise homers

4. Josh Hamilton -- AL batting champ and MVP on franchise's first World Series team

3. Michael Young -- By year's end he'll hold mark for games, at-bats, runs and hits

2. Juan Gonzalez -- Texas' only two-time MVP

1. Pudge Rodriguez -- Team's all-time best defensive player also among Top 10 in every offensive stat and won MVP in '99

I don't have any problems with the list. Ashame there's not room for the likes of Pete Incaviglia, Steve Buechele, and Pete O'Brien. They will always hold a space in my little heart.

the GREAT Kergo!

where the fuck is Al Oliver? Mike Hargrove? Mickey Rivers? This list is stupid!

Deep Flaws:-Raffy, maybe for Greggo, but not for me-he is a cheater.-Jeff Burroughs, the guy had one good year........daddy says "even the sunshines on a dogs ass, every once in while!".

Dear Mr. R Whitt, Are you sure you commenting on the right team?

I know this is a players list but I always think of Risenhoover when I think of Ranger greatness, Eric Nadel too. 1,000 miles away and I still listen to Ranger baseball on the radio, MLB Audio at any rate.

Buddy Bell - rated way to low. Best defensive infielder also hitting .293 for his Ranger career

Rogers best LH by a mile? Rogers : 4.16 ERA with Texas (12 years) Matlack 3.41 ERA with Texas (6 years)

No Hargrove? .399 career Rangers OBP leader (even above Hamilton)No Oliver? .319 career Rangers batting average leader.

Great list eh? 3 out of the top 5 are definite roiders. Your lists are usually shit anyways, what's your motto? As long as I'm right at least 20% of the time I'm doing alright? Do you realize how annoyed we get when you're right 1 out of 5 times and you say, TOLDYA. No you didn't.

Updated SFBL Standings, commentary follows:ScottsMerkin 76.5Balk You 75.5Merten's Molestation 69The Korean Reliever 68DavyCrockett 61TRDP1s Bloodytacos 58.5Fandricks 58Stupid Bitch 55.5Josh'sbrokenshoulder 49.5The Richie Shitt's 46Crawford's Uggla 42.5

SM's lead is withering very quickly and TKR continues to fall but looks to stay cemented through the week at #4 worst case. TRDP1 jumped another spot somehow, and the usual suspects are in the usual places. Stay hard, and have a good thought for the Hungry Huggin' Hambonita.

If your going to post A-rod with connection to roids, do as much with Gonzalez and Rodriquez rankings. Pudge goes to Detroit and shrivels up in size, like my balls in 30deg water. Josh, a bit soon to list him in the top-five.

Cant complain about that list. my personal opinion is 1-3 are interchangeble, BUT when MY leads the team in games, ab's runs and hits, he should be #1. Not only will his name grace #1 on many rangers stats, he has done everything the Rangers hae ever asked of him, even at his behest for the betterment of the franchise and to me that tops all. Those other guys accomplished things for the betterment of themselves, hence the steroid use. Give me young

Love placing Pudge at the top of the list. I can never claim I was always the most enthusiastic Rangers fan in middle years, but just the same I've been a fan for long when Pudge started his career with the Rangers and believe he's earned this respect.

Come on, Whitt. As much as we all hate ARod now, putting him that low is nothing but baiting or bias. The Rangers were to steroids as The Fail is to undeserving hosts.

I'm sick and tired of going 5/36 on offense every night. With an RBI or SB here and there. Effing sucky ass offense.

Exactly, Scruffy. Pudge and Juan Gone should also be 1 and 2 on the list of biggest Rangers juicers/cheaters. Am I the only one that remembers how Pudge's 30 pound weight loss due to his new off season jogging plan coincided with the stricter testing? C'mon, Richie. You are just like the idiots that yell "steroids" every time A-rod comes to the plate in Arlington while wearing a Pudge jersey.

Pudge's cheating bothered me more than any other player. Watching the dude crank home runs, throw lasers to second, and rifle snap throws to first had me convinced at the time that I was watching a player in his prime that would pass Bench as the greatest catcher that ever played the game. It was all lies. Without the juice, Pudge would have at best been the second best Molina brother.

I'm dissappointed he did not list KTCK 1310 AM The Ticket, Jesus or Sports Paternity Leave.
