Chris Arnold Joins 105.3 The Fan: Toldja Ya Nevuh Know

While I was sad to see my old partner Newy Scruggs leave 105.3 The Fan last week, I'm thrilled to have another familiar voice on board.

Back in April 2010 -- in the wake of Chris Arnold's departure from K104 -- I wrote that radio was volatile and that you never know who might show up where.

Case in point: Arnold is back, hosting a Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m. show on 105.3 The Fan.

"I really wanted to get back on the radio and back into sports talk," says Arnold, who for years has also served as the Mavericks' on-court emcee at American Airlines Center. "And it's kind of cool that my comeback is happening with the Mavs' comeback. This is going to be exciting."

While I welcome Chris with giddy, open arms and bid a sentimental farewell to my first full-time radio partner, I am a little bit troubled by this:

With Newy gone, our town's three sports talk stations are now void of a black anchor voice.

I know Donovan Lewis is the third banana on 1310 AM KTCK The Ticket's BaD Radio and Nate Newton gets an hour a day with Chuck Cooperstein on 103.3 FM ESPN, but ... doesn't this feel out of whack?

So other than dissing Donnie Do (15 hours a week plus Mavs and Cowboys postgames) and Nate (5 hours a week, Ben and Skin apperances, and Cowboys pre and postgames) ignoring JJT (Sunday am) , and forgetting that Freddy Coleman is on ESPN's night and weekend coverage about 14-20 hours a week, what was your point about black sports anchor voices?
- 1800 Gold is the preferred drink of yankee queers who where cowboy boots over the pants and too-small cowboy hats with a string that goes around their chin and string ties.
If you dont know what anyone here is talking about, then you obviously dont listen to DFW sports radio, have you ever even lived here. Here is an observation for you, everyone here, including the author and editor of this article know what we are talking about, so get your effing shine boxbox

I listened to Chris Arnold for about 3 minutes and I was ready to stab myself in the ears with a fork. It's the worst sports radio I've ever heard.

I would like a staright up trade: Chris Arnold, for my name sake, The Spairest of spare's, Bob Sturm. Sturm is always standing ready to throw out a Favre comparison. The M'fer used a Favre comparison during a Stars post game show. During Friday's Seal talk, Sturm said "dude" every other question to the guest. My bookie had the over under of Sturm saying dude for the segment set at 8, I took the under and lost my ass. At least Sturm would have a place to spread his own bandwagoning faults, soccer.

It's kept me from listening to Mike & Mike during breaks, so I thank them for that. Jasmine's done a really good job--she deserves credit.
A Saturday show? Give the man a daily gig geez.
Ill tell you something though....the new morning show on the fan is actually really good. They have good on-air guests. They actually go out to the events and ask players and coaches tough questions. Plus Jasmine is actually a chick that knows sports. The Failboat is still sinking but its sinking a little more slowly in the morning now.
I still have yet to see a successful soul patch. Not even Tony Almeida could pull it off successfully. Kergerator out!

Used to love listening to Chris back in the day..I know Cobra thanks him for getting him started out in wacky way with which he was used for his next decade at the station. Remember folks, you can't win if you don't play!

congrats chris, it wont be long before you will have a weekday show. The Fan is always changing lineups, just ask Newy, he'll tell youm they dont stick with something long enough to make it work

glad to see Chris Arnold back but he needs a full time show. He was part of the Ticket glory days and actually knows how to engage the listener with a good mix of sports/movie watching/barbecuing etc talk.
The Fail has more than one guy who tries to act urban... Jean-Jacques does Sunday morning in Elf's old slot. I don't care what color they are if they're good. Irvin and Newton weren't and aren't good. Newy was, but he got screwed. Donovan is great when he gets away from Dan's big-bag-o-nothing. You could always give up your slot for Arnold. As Goldberg would say, you're next.
